Last week we took part in a National Grid #OHL Drone & Robotics Technology Showcase, a pioneering two-day event at their training facility. Eight companies showcased some of the most cutting-edge technological advancements in this space. Sponsored by National Grid's OHL Operations Director, Kathryn Fairhurst, the showcase gave us a golden opportunity to demo autonomous #BVLOS close-quarter inspection to a packed room of OHL experts from National Grid, Réseau de Transport d'Électricité, SSEN Transmission, TenneT, Northern Ireland Electricity Networks and more. We piloted a drone remotely from our HQ in Chichester to carry out close inspection of a transmission tower at Eakring 330km away. Great to meet our fellow demonstrators FulcrumAir, PLP , Ampacimon, Heimdall Power, Nucleom, Power Line Sentry, DRB. It's a privilege to be part of such a dynamic community of drone and robotics engineers and innovators. Preparations are underway for our autonomous, close quarter aerial grid inspection demo at the National Grid OHL Drone Technology Showcase tomorrow. We'll be piloting a drone remotely (BVLOS) from our office in Chichester, inspecting a National Grid transmission tower in Eakring 240 km away. To maintain, upgrade, and extend electricity grids, operators need quality insight into the health of their network. Our cutting edge technology enables perfectly repeatable, close quarter inspection - at scale - delivering valuable data that can easily integrate into existing data platforms. Our demo was a success! Last Thursday, we flew two full takeoff-to-land grid inspection missions – piloted #BVLOS from London. In Hampshire, our drone conducted close inspection of live 400kV National Grid power lines, piloted by our expert operator in London. Meanwhile, an audience of VIPs watched from Boeing’s London office, and heard how our tech can transform vital infrastructure. We were honoured to have such a prestigious audience seeing one of our flights in action, from industry insiders to regulators to leading investors. Every time we fly, we bring our system closer to unlocking BVLOS flight across the network. Thank you for joining us! We're enabling drones to fly beyond the visual line of sight of remote pilots using ‘atypical air environments’. This new policy marks a significant milestone for the future of drone operations for use in surveying national infrastructure and site security. What is an atypical air environment? It's an area of airspace where operators can expect there to be a reduced number of traditionally piloted aircraft, due to the proximity of ground infrastructure.
