Self Help UK
Non-profit Organizations
We are Self Help UK, a beacon of best practice in self-care & self-managed support.
About us
Self Help UK has been inspiring communities for over 40 years to connect better. Using expertise, training and resources to support peer-led support groups, Self Help UK campaign to keep self-care and peer support on the agenda and strive to make this better. We have maintained a strong record in innovation and solution-finding. We have devoted our consultancy work to promote, support and enable peer support in different sectors by empowering organisations and professionals to create, develop, and run peer support groups. Peer support groups can encourage someone to feel less alone and more understood. Peer support is diverse. That is why we ask the relevant questions to get the right product for you or your organisation, locally or nationally, large or small. Our consultancy work also takes us into the domain of effectively managing co-production and co-alliances, and policy development. We provide specialist cancer services. Our Macmillan Beyond Diagnosis program provides practical and emotional support to those affected by cancer. By offering short-term assistance, facilitating access to support groups and activities, and connecting individuals with vital resources, we help improve overall wellbeing. Through our Primary Care Network (PCN) and Link Worker initiatives, we focus on improving cancer care. By increasing screening participation, providing holistic support through Cancer Care Reviews, and promoting healthy behaviours, we positively impact patient outcomes and reduced crisis situations. Our Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project led by a Deaf team, provides virtual emotional and practical support to Deaf people experiencing cancer. Collectively, our organisation makes a substantial impact by connecting individuals to support networks, equipping them with skills and knowledge, providing practical assistance, and improving cancer care processes. We are proud to have empowered and supported individuals and groups on their journey towards better health.

We were honoured to attend the Macmillan Cancer Support Professionals Conference 2024 in Wales last week. The conference enables healthcare professionals from across the UK to connect, learn, and grow. It provides opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and skill development through sessions and workshops. Our presentation on Palliative and End Of Life Care for Deaf People was warmly received. The conference also recognises and celebrates excellence in cancer care through the Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards. We're extremely proud to have been finalists in our category for Innovation. Our Deaf Cancer Support UK Project Manager, Claire says: "I am proud of the Deaf Cancer Support team for their dedication and determination in supporting the deaf community at a national level, not forgetting their compassion/empathy to ensure that people are being supported in their respective cancer journeys." Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
