Semple & McKillop Consulting Engineers are delighted to be working as the MEP consultant for Henry Brothers Ltd on the £13.5m DVA Mallusk Test Centre Project. Our role focuses on delivering innovative, energy-efficient and sustainable MEP solutions for this prestigious development. The new, state-of-the-art facility will include a ten-lane vehicle testing area with two pit-based inspection lanes for heavy goods vehicles, seven ramp-based lanes for light vehicles, a dedicated bay for motorcycle testing and modern administrative facilities. €12million investment in Sports Facilities for the people of Drogheda by LMETB I am absolutely delighted that today, Thomas Byrne, Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht announced LMETB’s application for a new Sports Arena for St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda, under the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) 2024 was successful. The application which is in collaboration with Drogheda Wolves Basketball Club and Special Olympics Olympic Ireland was awarded a grant of over €7million and LMETB also secured additional funding from the Department of Education — Ireland to bring the total cost of the project to €12million. This major sporting facility located on the grounds of St. Oliver’s Community College will serve the physical education needs of students and will provide a much-needed basketball arena for Drogheda Wolves. It will help address a very important recommendation for the Drogheda Implementation Board in their report “Drogheda: Creating a Bridge to Better Future” that sporting and recreational opportunities be developed for the young people of Drogheda. The planned arena 2,158m2 will accommodate three full size basketball courts arranged in a versatile layout. Stored tiered seating will enable hundreds of spectators to watch showcase games and events. It is our intention that this project will be a Sports Arena of Excellence with student use during the school year for sports and school activities with Drogheda Wolves Basketball Club and Special Olympics Ireland having extensive use outside of school time – evenings, weekends and holidays. Other clubs and organisations will also have the opportunity to avail of these facilities as well as the existing sports hall at St. Oliver’s. This arena is capable of running a range of indoor activities and sports, it is fully accessible to all, has four changing rooms, strength and conditioning facility, storage and meeting space. The development of the overall application and business case was overseen by my Team in consultation with Drogheda Wolves, locally elected representatives, school management and specialist design team consultants. I would like to thank all who were involved. Special thanks to Thomas Byrne, T.D., Catherine Martin T.D. and their staff in their Departments, thanks also to Mr. Hubert Loftus, Ass. Sec. General in the Department of Education for the much-needed additional funding which ensured the success of our application. Last night, the Belfast and Blayney offices came together for an inter-office charity football match. Funds were raised for the Cancer Fund for Children, which offers practical and emotional support to local children and their families affected by cancer across Ireland. The event was a great success, with the Blayney office emerging victorious, winning 6-4 in what was a very tight match! The evening was filled with banter and concluded with a delicious meal for players and supporters. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported the charity event!
