Thank you for sharing your observations Gianpaolo Benedetti and indeed, these new regulations are there to stay so better get familiar with them and the possibilities that they offer for the transition ahead of us. #safety #bunkering #collaboration
FuelEU Maritime: Love it or hate it, it’s here to stay! Over the past couple of days, I had the privilege of attending #EMSA workshops focused on alternative fuels and the implementation of FuelEU Maritime. A big thank you to the EMSA Secretariat for their outstanding leadership in navigating these crucial discussions. As January 1st approaches, FuelEU Maritime will become a reality for ships calling at EU ports. Here are some key takeaways: 🚢 Avoidance Strategies: Concerns around rerouting and transshipment to bypass regulations are growing. While we haven’t seen strong evidence of such practices under the ETS system, the FuelEU framework may bring new challenges. ⚙️ Flexibility Mechanisms: Pooling, banking, and borrowing offer vessels options for compliance, but penalties are a critical factor. If a ship can simply absorb penalties and pass costs down the chain, is this approach sustainable—or acceptable? 🛢️ Fuel Certification & Emission Values: Default vs. actual emission values of fuels and the certification process remain works in progress. While initial guidelines are available, much is yet to be finalised. It’s a steep learning curve for everyone in the maritime sector. If you haven’t already, now is the time to dive into the FuelEU Maritime regulations. For those short on time (or patience for lengthy legal texts), the EMSA FuelEU Webinars and EC’s excellent Q&A page offers a concise and helpful overview. https://lnkd.in/ermNHtjk https://lnkd.in/epr98Huv Let’s embrace the challenge and prepare for the road ahead! 🚀 #FuelEU #MaritimeDecarbonization #AlternativeFuels #Sustainability #SGMF
