In the heart of Argyll, the Kilchoan Melfort Trust is rewriting the story of Scotland's landscapes. From rewilding woodlands to marine ecosystems, this conservation trust, founded in 2023, is on a mission to revitalise Scotland’s natural habitats. Led by passionate conservationists like Laura Dawson, the trust is documenting hundreds of species— and counting! Birds, mammals, moths, and even marine life are finding their home again. With a focus on ecological restoration, education, and fostering a spiritual connection with nature, Kilchoan is a living example of what’s possible when we prioritize the planet. 🔗 Edges of Earth's Andi Cross in conversation with Laura Dawson: https://lnkd.in/dawaJNWJ #SHEChangesClimate #EdgesOfEarth

"A just transition should take economic and social justice concerns into account. But there has been a lack of serious engagement with the gendered dimensions of justice in policies being developed for the just transition. This raises the risk that transition policies sustain or worsen gender (and other) inequalities. This is particularly true in the Global South, which is facing the greatest threats due to climate change and transition impacts." 📰 https://lnkd.in/d2D7JAwY 💡 This paper argues that ensuring a transition that delivers gender justice is both critical and urgent: https://lnkd.in/d-JE_RrS #FairTransitionForAll

By mandating gender parity across political, economic, and social sectors, at the national and international level, GR40 addresses the systemic inequalities that perpetuate exclusion and discrimination. We fully support the 50:50 leadership vision for gender parity in decision-making spaces. #SHEChangesClimate
GR40: A Paradigm Shift for Women’s Equal Participation in Decision-Making. 🌍 Today CEDAW Committee adopted General Recommendation 40 (GR40), marking a significant shift in ensuring women’s equal and inclusive representation in decision-making systems. This new legal framework, rooted in the binding standards of one of the most widely ratified treaties, establishes equal participation and power as a legal right through 50:50 gender parity measures across national, international, public, private, political, and economic spaces. ⚖️ A key aspect of GR40 is the definition of clear gender parity standards in international spaces, including judicial bodies, multilateral fora, peace and security, arbitration mechanisms, and diplomatic delegations—areas where women's representation has historically been lacking. This development is central to GQUAL’s mission, as it directly addresses the spaces where we strive for gender parity. Read the GR here: https://lnkd.in/eZfxpTdc 🔑 we have proudly supported and contributed to this development. As we move forward, our focus is on advocating for its full implementation, starting with a key meeting this week with experts and stakeholders. We invite our community to engage with the GR: share it, discuss it, teach it, use it in advocacy and litigation. We strongly believe GR40 can become a practical tool for dismantling the patriarchal structures that have long excluded women from these vital spaces. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and recognition to the CEDAW Committee for their dedication and vision in adopting this groundbreaking recommendation, and especially to Nicole Ameline for her leadership throughout this process. Across Brazil, women are leading the charge in climate action—protecting Indigenous territories, driving clean energy solutions, and transforming sustainable agriculture. Their leadership is essential in the fight against climate change. 🌍✨ At the G20, Brazil reinforced its commitment by launching the Just and Inclusive Energy Transition Compact, prioritizing gender inclusion and equity in climate policies. While challenges remain, such policy advancements are laying the foundation for a #FairTransitionForAll. Green Economy Coalition

Now that COP29 has concluded with disappointing progress on climate finance, the urgency for bold, inclusive action has never been clearer. A sustainable future demands that women—particularly those in vulnerable sectors—are no longer sidelined. Climate policies and economic transitions have historically excluded women’s voices, overlooking their distinct challenges, invaluable knowledge, and transformative potential. This exclusion is a missed opportunity for meaningful progress. A gender-responsive #justtransition is not only a matter of equity but also a strategic imperative. It strengthens resilience, fosters thriving communities, and builds economies capable of weathering the climate crisis. Integrating gender responsiveness into climate action ensures equitable participation in decision-making, allowing nations to craft more inclusive, effective strategies that benefit everyone. Although #COP29 fell short in many areas, it remains a reminder of the power we hold to drive change. The fight for a future that works for all continues. 💚✊ #FairTransitionForAll

Tafadzwa Kurotwi shares her thoughts on the #COP29 $300 billion climate finance deal which is less than a quarter of what science shows is needed and barely enough to forestall a climate catastrophe. Read the #SHEChangesClimate statement on the COP29 outcome: https://lnkd.in/dmRrgVpA

"The #COP29 outcome is not just a disappointment; it is a profound insult to the tireless advocates who have fought for justice and to the countless lives already lost and devastated by the relentless impacts of climate change. We are witnessing a cycle of empty promises and a complete disregard for those whose futures hang in the balance."
