Last week the Lord Mayor attended the first steel cutting for HMS Sheffield. She joined Sheffield’s Master Cutler Philip Rodrigo and the Deputy Lieutenant and former Master Cutler Christopher Jewitt, as well as former members of the Royal Navy who served in D80 HMS Sheffield, at the workshop in Glasgow to observe apprentices using welding torches on the steel plate for the fourth incarnation of the Shiny Sheff. There was some amazing news for Sheffield City Council Homes Manager Alina Pop recently at a prestigious awards night in Birmingham. We wish to congratulate Alina on winning the Registered Manager of the Year Award 2024 at the National Children and Young People Awards. Alina and her team’s hard work provides some great outcomes for the often vulnerable children who pass through their care, and her leadership has now been recognised on a national scale. We would like to thank Alina for everything she does for children who need our support in Sheffield.

Sheffield City Council joined our partners from Esh Group to look at work progressing at the £18.9m zero-gas affordable housing development at Newstead this week. The site, near to Birley Moor Road, will see 77 new homes spring up over the next couple of years. Designed by Peak Architects Ltd, the development will feature 36 one and two-bedroom apartments with communal gardens and balconies, alongside 41 two, three and four-bedroom properties with off street parking and gardens. All homes will be fitted with air source heat pumps instead of traditional gas boilers, as well as enhanced insulation and electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Cllr Douglas Johnson, Chair of the Housing Policy Committee, said: “Sheffield City Council is delighted to be pushing ahead with expanding our council housing offering for current and prospective tenants. “Our plans remain to build or acquire more than 1,000 council homes in the next five years – and partners such as Esh Construction are instrumental in helping us achieve this.” For more on the visit, head to the Esh Construction website: https://lnkd.in/eKnd8_Gn

Sheffield's Christmas markets have been named one of the best in the UK by The Independent! 🎄 We're proud to showcase lots of lovely local, independent sellers across more than 60 log cabins stretching from Town Hall Square to the bottom of The Moor. And it's been wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the festivities and discovering Sheffield's changing city centre.
