We provide mental health, learning disability and specialist services in Sheffield.
About us
We provide a wide range of specialist health and social care services. Our vision is to improve the mental, physical and social wellbeing of the people in our communities. We want people to live fulfilled lives and aim to help them achieve this by providing services which work closely alongside primary care (eg GPs) to meet people’s health and social care needs, support their recovery and improve their health and wellbeing. Our community-based services aim to provide care and treatment to individuals and their families close to their homes and help them to maintain their independence and continue with their day-to-day lives as much as possible. We also provide a range of in-patient (for people who need to stay in hospital at least one night) and residential services for individuals who cannot be appropriately helped within their community. Through our learning disability services, we provide supported living to the people who use our services and we work closely with residential care homes and supported living facilities in partnership with housing associations. Many of the people we help are visited in their own homes by our staff. Others attend our clinics to see nurses, social workers, therapists or doctors. We give treatment, care and help to the people who use our services on an individual or group basis. We also work alongside GPs and other staff in local health centres, or with staff from other organisations, often in the voluntary sector. We often see individuals for short periods of time, providing advice and treatment which helps resolve the person’s problems. For those with more serious, longer-term difficulties, we will support and work with them for a number of years.

Well done to Zoe D. and Melissa Simmonds who have been chosen as finalists in the Northern PoWEr Women Awards 😊 Zoe, our peer support lead, has been nominated for the Person with a Purpose award. The nomination highlights Zoe as one of the "most remarkable colleagues that we have ever had the pleasure of working with. "She is a brave and passionate person who has made it her purpose to share her experiences and help to make the world a better place for those who need most support or who have experienced unimaginable challenges and trauma." 💙 Melissa, our community network leader for health equity (patients and carers), has also done incredible work for SHSC. She is a finalist in the Agent of Change category. Melissa is praised as "dedicating her time to overcoming challenges and making a difference where it is needed the most. "Her work is deeply rooted in equity, coproduction, and collaborative models, such as the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), which she has led on for Sheffield to address racial inequalities in health services and improve the experiences and outcomes for service users and carers from ethnically marginalised backgrounds." 👍 Whatever happens at the final on 6 March we know the massive impact you have both had at SHSC. Thank you and best of luck for the final! 🤞 Salma Yasmeen

To make sure our teams feel ready and confident for the launch, we’re hosting Rio roadshows where people at our sites can come along and book their training, try out Rio, ask questions and test their smartcard. There are so many chances to get involved this week, check out where our Rio roadshows are in this video 👇

This year Chanukah, or Hanukkah, has been celebrated between 25 December and 2 January. Beforehand, Amber Wild, head of corporate assurance, shared what Chanukah means to her: "Chanukah, or Hanukkah, is a Jewish celebration which will be celebrated on 25 December this year, so it will be a double celebration in our household! It is a winter festival of light which takes place over eight nights. A candle is lit each night to celebrate that light is more powerful than darkness and good is more powerful than evil. "Oil plays a significant role in the Chanukah story, reflecting the small jug of oil that miraculously provided fuel for the Temple Menorah for eight days during the Maccabee times. It is customary to eat foods fried in oil and firm favorites (certainly in our family!) are latkes (pancakes) with apple sauce or sour cream and sufganyiot (jelly-filled doughnuts). "Jews celebrate Chanukah in different ways depending on their individual traditions, but really this festival is an opportunity to take some time to reflect, and to sit together with friends, family and good food. "Happy Chanukah all!"
