Prior to Christmas, Freedom Group, in partnership with Sienna Construction Ltd established a new CDM site and commenced Phase 1 of the construction project. This phase involved the installation of underground ducting for a new 33kV upgrade and the placement of fiber pits on behalf of SSE plc The teams on site demonstrated remarkable dedication and executed their tasks flawlessly. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin upon our return in January. Exciting progress on our 132kV substation project near Basingstoke: steel erection for the GIS building kicked off last week, and the team is making swift headway. They've nearly completed the installation of approximately 60 tons of structural steel! This site presents unique logistical challenges, requiring careful coordination around the existing HV equipment adjacent to the new building's footprint and precise crane positioning. Collaborating closely with the Senior Authorised Person (SAP), we installed an earthing system to temporarily earth the crane and MWEPs, ensuring safety and stability, while permanently earthing the steel frame. Proud of adam goble and our team's hard work and commitment to safety as we bring this project to life.

Exciting Progress at the Port of Southampton! We’ve officially broken ground on our latest design-and-build civil project, supporting HV specialists Southern Voltage Services and SHARRD ENERGY SERVICES Ltd in upgrading Dock Gate 20 Substation. This project includes replacing the existing 33kV transformers and HV switchgear, ensuring enhanced efficiency and reliability for the port’s infrastructure. Following a comprehensive site investigation and detailed civil design phase, we’ve begun on-site work, starting with the construction of the piling mat and mini piling. Given the challenging local ground conditions, we opted for a thick-walled steel tube piling solution as the most effective approach. Next week, we move into the Formwork, Reinforcement & Concrete (FRC) stage to construct the new transformer bunds. Project update: We’re making great progress on our HV power upgrade project in Somerset! With the intake and distribution substations nearing completion, our focus has shifted to the installation of HV and LV trenches and ducts. This site presents unique logistical challenges, as we’re working in and around a large hospital, carefully coordinating our efforts to ensure minimal disruption for patients and emergency vehicles.
