The industry (and beyond!) is buzzing about our new Sinclair T55 home and industrial-certified compostable label! But what does “home and industrial compostable” mean, and how do they differ? Both types of composting follow the same basic principles, but the conditions vary. Key factors like time, temperature, water, oxygen, and bacteria play crucial roles in breaking down compostable materials. Here’s what it means for a product to be certified compostable: · over 90% of the organic carbon is converted to CO2 · materials disintegrate to a size less than 0.5mm · materials must contain no harmful substances that could negatively impact compost, plants, or animals · low levels of heavy metals Industrial Composting takes place in large scale commercial facilities where the temperature, often exceeds 55°C. These facilities create the optimum environment for bacteria to thrive, speeding up the composting process. The result means materials break down within 12 weeks, earning a certification for fast, efficient composting. Home composting, on the other hand, happens at a slower pace due to lower temperatures, usually around 25°C – closer to what you’d find in your own garden. Every backyard is different, so the process is naturally more variable. Home compostable materials are allowed up to 26 weeks to fully disintegrate. We’re proud to say that our new labels are certified for both home and industrial composting, meeting the rigorous composting standards EN 13432, AS 5810 and NFT 51-800. Whether you're composting in a controlled facility or your backyard, our labels break down and biodgrade safely at end of life to become part of soil enriching compost. Talk to our team today to discover how compostable labels can support your sustainability goals. The future of fruit labelling! #discover_yourlabel
