Do you know which buildings are most likely to need specialised smoke control systems in place? Multi-storey buildings such as shopping centres, sport arenas and airports, large single storey buildings such as factories and warehouses, buildings with occupants who are less able to escape - such as hospitals, buildings with atria (modern office buildings) and car parks where gas and fume extraction is required. Smoke ventilation systems are critical to ensure the safety of occupants in the event of a fire. Over the last six months, HMRC has made a number of changes to the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), including: Compliance with VAT obligations has been added to the Gross Payment Status compliance test which means if businesses do not comply with their VAT requirements, then HMRC can ultimately remove or refuse Gross Payment Status. Most landlord to tenant payments for construction work are no longer within the scope of the CIS. There is now a digital form to register as a Subcontractor and make Gross Payment Status applications. Check out the video from HMRC for CIS Subcontractors to help understand the scheme and more: https://lnkd.in/eqqZ9bQS Federation of Environmental Trade Associations (FETA) #smokecontrol
