Frank and thought-provoking perspectives shared by two forward-thinking #ICB #Chiefpharmacists at our Spotlight Conference. Ewan Maule Uzo Ibechukwu shared that there is a real drive and appetite from ICBs to partner with Industry to drive pathway change and address #healthinequalities. In fact, ICBs have more power and potential to do so. There are barriers to overcome, however. We will be collating the themes and findings from this panel and workshops with Industry into a “Innovative Partnerships Report”. If you would like a copy of this report, please comment below or send an email to: info@soarbeyond.co.uk

Ballot turnout and public support at an all-time high as community pharmacies face unprecedented cuts in real time funding...
Multi-award winning CEO of the National Pharmacy Association. Ex CEO of RCPsych and director of comms of RCGP. Values-based leader. Views my own.
Today we've launched the results of the first ever NPA - National Pharmacy Association ballot on reducing patient services. The usual turnout for a trade association ballot is between 7-15%, but such was the strength of feeling among pharmacy owners that the turnout in our ballot was an amazing 63.5%. We balloted members in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the turnout was strong in each nation, with 71% of members voting in Northern Ireland. And the strength of feeling wasn't just limited to small and medium independent pharmacy groups, as was shown by the fact that 81.1% of multiples with 10 or more branches voted in the ballot. Pharmacy owners are feeling furious about the real terms funding cuts and mass closures of the last decade. And now many feel desperate, as a result of the Budget, which handed them unfunded hikes in National Insurance employers' contributions and a non-subsidised increase in the National Living Wage. No pharmacy owner wants to take action that could affect patients negatively, but there is now a state of emergency within community pharmacy, after years of underfunding, and pharmacies are being driven to desperate measures. Across the board, pharmacy owners voted to reduce services in order to both safeguard patient care and remain sustainable. In England, 97.8% of pharmacies said they were prepared to reduce opening hours to the minimum core hours stipulated in their NHS contract. And 93.3% said they were prepared to end free deliveries of medicine, for which they are not reimbursed. In Wales, 96.3% of pharmacies said they were prepared to stop providing free blister packs for patients, other than those covered by the Equality Act. And 99.3% said they support the Welsh government's stated ambitions for community pharmacy, but that the reimbursement they receive for dispensing NHS medicines needs to be urgently reviewed. In Northern Ireland, 95.4% of pharmacies said they will no longer collect prescriptions from GP surgeries. And 100% said they would no longer cooperate with requests for sharing data over and above those required for patient safety and contractual minimums. The NPA hopes government will respond positively to the outcome of the ballot. If there is no fair deal forthcoming for pharmacies in each of the three nations, the NPA will look to call action in January. I would like to thank every member who took part in the ballot. This was an historic ballot for community pharmacy, with a resounding outcome. nick kaye Olivier Picard Sukhi Basra Sehar Shahid Ashley Cohen Aisling O'Brien Sanjeev Panesar Andrew Lane Salim Jetha Baldev Bange Sanjay Ganvir Shilpa Shah Reena Barai Mike Hewitson Graham Phillips Patricia Tigenoah-Ojo Komal George
