Our brand new “Boys Mean Business” Programme, generously funded by Hiscox, at Prendergast Vale School, is off to an incredible start! The mixture of creating Business Model Canvasses, learning about #respectfulConversations, learning from Social Ark entrepreneurs, and focusing on lived experience as a driver for passion and #leadership is such a powerful combination. It’s inspiring to see how the program is empowering young boys to become leaders not just in their schools but also in their communities. “ I’m happy that I joined this program, seeing powerful business leaders turn their lived experience into a business. I’ve taken a lot from having them in our session. This makes me feel like I can do anything.” A huge shoutout to the Social Ark Alumni speakers JR Josephs, Manny Loveankh, and Aaliyah Glasgow for sharing their journeys, it’s no wonder the boys loved their sessions! Partnerships like the one with Hiscox really make impactful initiatives like this possible, and it’ll be exciting to see the long-term impact this has on the boys their peers and their communities. #BoysMeanBusiness #SocEnt #SchoolEnterprise #LivedExperience #SocialArkFamily💙

Working with young people from under-resourced communities to use their lived experiences to lead sustainable change!
About us
Set up in 2015, Social Ark is an Award winning charity that empowers young people from under-resourced communities to develop social businesses- guided by their own lived experiences. We also run youth engagement programs enabling school-age children to take part in meaningful social action. We provide a standout programme of workshops, mentoring and personalised support that enables the young people we work with to focus on their assets and talents. In this way, they build on their goals, creating a springboard of positive action that results in sustainable change. We’ve created the Social Ark Family which consists of our supporters and young people that have been through our programmes. They sit on our board as trustees and along with our youth steering group they shape and steer our work. The Social Ark core and senior management team is made up of our alumni and people from our own community. Our alumni co-design our programmes and often co-facilitate them too, and they're always respectfully paid as the lived experience experts they are. Our young people constantly tell us they don’t want to be “fixed or cured” by individuals that have “never walked a day in their shoes.” As they develop and lead their social enterprises, they go from being side-lined and overlooked to becoming respected role models and leaders in their communities.

Check out the video (capturing all the greatness and excellence) in Westfield with Social Ark 🎉💙
Black History Month was special. The #SocialArkFamily💙 took over a pop-up shop in Westfield Stratford City, and what a great time we had showcasing #BlackExcellence our way. Over three weeks, our incredible young social entrepreneurs showcased emerging Black fashion designers, musicians, and spoken word artists, inspirational thought-provoking podcasts were recorded, and workshops and roundtables were activated. Footfall at Westfield is incredible. People from all backgrounds got involved, some buying clothing, others joining in the music sessions. Elders stopped to speak about the history of the local area and reminisce about how Newham, and particularly Stratford, was before the regeneration. Everyone who stopped by learned about and admired our young stand-out social entrepreneurs. All our young social entrepreneurs are committed to using their lived experience to build social businesses that empower communities, making them a better place for all of us. Hearing their stories inspired everyone! Westfield didn’t disappoint; they gave us a prime location and all the support needed to ensure the pop-up looked incredibly professional with shop vinyl and fitout. The whole Westfield team went above and beyond to support us in bringing the pop-up to life; from the events, marketing and social media teams to the back office administration, they truly championed us. Thank you to Alyson Hodkinson, Emma Steele, Hannah Durling, Chris Betts, Sasha Vose, George Thompson and everyone at Westfield who made this happen. Our incredible alumni led this project from start to finish, JR Josephs, Lisa Stepanovic MBE, Tiwa King, Brogan Brooks, Zakarriyah Katakyie Addae-kodua Khalil, joined by Dr Joy White, Moses Adeyemi, Sanyu Musoke, Jujubeng (Naimat Ajimobi), Kowiyat Ajimobi, Aaliyah Glasgow, Kianu G., Manny Loveankh, Roundtree and everyone of the Social Ark Family who supported us. As Black History Month ends, I want to shine a light on the incredible Mr david mcqueen. David has selflessly supported Social Ark over the years, and we are really lucky he is a trustee. David champions our young social entrepreneurs, and only last night did he run another brilliant leadership session for us. David, I appreciate all your help and guidance over the years. You've supported me through challenging times and encouraged me and all our young entrepreneurs to be BRAVE values-driven leaders. You're one in a million, and we all appreciate you so much, thank you Sir! #SocialArkFamily 💙 #BlackHistoryMonth2024
