This week our General Counsel, Mel Rowlands, spoke on a panel at Energyear UK and Ireland: "Driving Sustainable Growth: Current Solar Strategies in a Competitive Global Market". As part of her role, Mel recently led the refresh of Sonnedix’s sustainability strategy and is currently guiding the rollout of our net zero transition plan and CSRD reporting. She shared how ESG is driving real value at Sonnedix: 🌱 Our stakeholders are more focused than ever on ESG, enhancing our efforts in DE&I, decarbonisation, and community engagement. ⭐ This focus not only drives meaningful impact but also helps us attract and retain team members in our #OneTeam who are aligned with our values. ☀️ Sonnedix approaches sustainability from both a micro and macro level, from managing biodiversity and emissions at the project level, to developing long-term strategies for decarbonisation. Sonnedix inaugurates its 150 MW Betierra project in Spain 🎉   Today we officially cut the ribbon in Belinchón, Cuenca, and celebrated major achievements in our Spanish portfolio:   🚀 Officially surpassing 1 GW owned and operated renewable energy capacity in Spain. ☀️ Our #OneTeam has worked hard over the past three years to complete construction of this project, including optimising shared interconnection infrastructure. ⚡️ Betierra has started generating nearly 300,000 MWh of clean energy annually—enough to power 71,000 homes and avoid 107,000 metric tonnes of CO2e per year. 🤝 The clean energy will be supplied to Equinix under a long-term Purchase Power Agreement (PPA).   As our CEO Axel Thiemann shared, this achievement reflects Sonnedix’s transformation from a 1 MW plant in Spain to one of the leading solar PV players in the country, just a month after our 15th anniversary.   The inauguration ceremony was attended by local and regional government representatives, along with members of Sonnedix’s and Equinix’s management teams including Carlos Guinand, Co-Founder and Chairman of Sonnedix as well as Eulalia Flo, Managing Director of Equinix. ☀️ In October we marked a significant milestone for Sonnedix: the official inauguration of our 21MW Wdziękoń Drugi Cluster in Poland. The event was an opportunity to celebrate our #OneTeam’s achievement, connect with partners, and showcase the project and our commitment to sustainability. 🌱 Guests explored the solar farm, scattered a special seed mix for a future wildflower meadow, and learnt all about our focus on designing biodiverse habitats within our installations. By creating spaces for pollinators and birds, we’re enhancing local biodiversity while advancing renewable energy. Congratulations once again to the Polish team. 📣 Sonnedix attended the 2024 Aurora Battery Conference, where our CEO Axel Thiemann opened the day with a discussion on the role of battery energy storage systems in the energy transition. Throwback to our team visit to Sonnedix’s 60MW Gonerby Project ☀️   In conjunction with our 15 Year Anniversary, the Sonnedix #OneTeam ventured to the Gonerby Solar PV project in Lincolnshire to celebrate our growth in the UK. From guided tours led by our Engineering and Construction teams, through to inspiring presentations from our Chairman Carlos Guinand and CEO Axel Thiemann, team members from across the globe came together to reflect on how far we’ve come.   Part of our 300MWp Aria portfolio, Gonerby is one of the largest solar PV plants in the UK. A message from our CEO This past week has been extremely saddening, as we witness the devastation caused by the recent floods in Spain. It has been heartbreaking to see the impact on many lives and communities, especially those of our colleagues and their families.
