  • At South Cambridgeshire District Council, we are marking #WhiteRibbonDay next week and promoting the White Ribbon message at our office to help others understand that preventing violence against women and girls is not only a women’s issue – #ItStartsWithMen. As a White Ribbon Accredited organisation, we are committed to not only raising awareness about this serious issue but are fully engaged in supporting men and boys in our network to learn about what they can do to contribute to a healthier, more inclusive work environment, and prevent violence against women and girls from happening in the first place. We are proud to have staff members signed up as White Ribbon Ambassadors and Champions. In these roles, they ensure the White Ribbon message of allyship, accountability and equality are upheld across our teams.

  • 🍃♻️🏞️💚Youngsters were empowered to design air quality superheroes when South Cambridgeshire District Council held its first pollution awareness talk in the community. The interactive session aimed to transform complex issues around pollution and climate into relatable steps, which empowered 1st Bourn Beavers to find ways to protect their local environment. Held at Caxton Village Hall, the session was designed to inspire young minds on the importance of clean air and the Council’s role in improving air quality for future generations. The talk was part of the Council’s commitment to empowering youngsters by providing tools and knowledge to take active roles in sustainability efforts. It comes hot on the heels of a Climate and Environment Action meeting held at Comberton Village College last month. https://lnkd.in/eVr7Kumx

    • A disused shop front. The windows are painted white and covered in posters for a circus.
  • 🌳 Trees are being offered to parish councils across the district to create habitats and food for wildlife, while also playing a crucial role in the battle against climate change. The latest round of Six Free Trees launched on 13 November. 📆 Parish Councils have until 20 December 2024 to apply for six free trees or one large potted tree, which will be delivered to them in January 2025. 🗣 Cllr Bridget Smith, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Every tree planted is a step towards a greener future. Already, the Six Free Trees project has been a significant success, and we’re delighted to offer it again this year. Trees are one of our most simple yet powerful weapons in the fight against climate change and this initiative is a vital part of our mission to achieve net-zero emissions." • Public sector fraud is far from a victimless crime. Its impacts ripple through our society, affecting every citizen and the services we all rely on. The consequences of the public sector being targeted by fraudsters include reduced funding for essential public services. Our comprehensive strategy includes improving fund recovery mechanisms and enhancing prevention measures across all departments. Every pound saved from fraud is a pound that can be invested in vital public services. #FraudWeek
