  • British Science Week (7–16 March) is right around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to inspire your students with engaging and meaningful science-related experiences. Did you know that over 90% of teachers report that working with STEM Ambassadors improves students’ awareness and ambitions in STEM? The best part? It’s free and incredibly easy to get started. The STEM Ambassador program, from STEM Learning, connects schools with volunteers from STEM industries to bring real-world expertise and excitement to classrooms. Here’s how you can make it happen: How to Request a STEM Ambassador 1. Log in or register for a free account on the STEM Learning website. 2. Publish an activity request https://lnkd.in/ermgGXUi The form is straightforward, asking for details such as your students’ age range, the expertise you’d like (e.g., biology, chemistry, engineering etc), and the type of activity—whether it’s an interactive presentation, a hands-on workshop, or even CPD for educators. You can include flexible dates or timings. 3. Once published, your activity becomes visible to thousands of DBS-checked STEM Ambassadors across the UK. 4. Monitor responses. Interested STEM Ambassadors will respond to your request, and you can review their profiles before accepting the ones that suit your needs. Don’t forget to log back into your account to confirm your chosen Ambassadors—this step is often overlooked! 5. When you’ve secured enough volunteers, click "Ambassadors Confirmed" to finalise. The theme for this year’s British Science Week is ‘Change and Adapt’, and the free activity packs (available for early years, primary, secondary and community groups) are full of inspiration. Here are a few activities from the secondary activity pack where STEM Ambassadors could make a big impact: • Unlocking Skills Activity This activity highlights transferable skills— such as curiosity, collaboration, and creativity—used in STEM careers. A STEM Ambassador could explain how they use these skills in their job, providing students with valuable career insights. • UCL’s Design Challenge Encourage students to design an invention to improve air quality in buildings. STEM Ambassadors with engineering backgrounds could guide the activity or help judge the designs. • ICR’s Defeat the Tumour Activity If you can find a STEM Ambassador working in cancer research, they could enrich this task by discussing real-world applications, complementing GCSE Combined Science or Biology lessons. • WWF’s Amazing Animal Adaptations This activity is perfect for KS3 students. A STEM Ambassador working in ecology, veterinary science, or even at a zoo could bring it to life with engaging examples and insights. Download the activity packs for more inspiration! https://lnkd.in/eY2ajdd7
