Great words from Sheenagh and a great picture of our team to go alongside them ⬇️
So, last week we had our South Manchester Credit Union AGM and bucked the online AGM trend with an in person meeting . It was one of those times when the courage to mix formal and informal paid off . There are a lot of moving parts to plan and organise so its always a relief when people leave smiling and buoyed up . Reminding each other why it matters to local people to have a safe , friendly place to save and affordable , respectful ways to borrow . I am deeply proud to lead this organisation . And pleased that the framework of the meeting , including warm hosting by The Place at Platt Lane and delicious food from Cracking Good Food , encouraged wide ranging participation. Several members described their positive experience of our credit union and their ideas for our development - vital for a member-owned co-operative. We welcomed Mark Heaton to walk us through our financial statements . It is also vital that we get the formal parts right. Including electing two new directors Daniel Jones and Tekla Szerszynska We heard from three of our partner organisations about how we are collaborating with them; George Roberts of Singlify , James Fell of Credit Canary and Trish Martin of Southway Housing Trust And then .. our amazing staff team each introduced themselves and we looked at videos and pictures of all the ways we breathe life into our credit union values down on Fog Lane. Back now from the mountain top to Monday morning and the work of the next year - implementing new tech - growing our membership - especially our savings base - and always banging the drum for #creditunions …

We are proud and excited that the Southway Affordable Loan Scheme won the award for Most Innovative Partnership last night Our partnership with Southway Housing Trust hit the 10-year milestone last year. It's only fitting that the social impact our collaboration, has had on local people's finances, is recognised.
We’re so proud our fantastic partnership with South Manchester Credit Union has achieved national recognition by winning the Most Innovative Partnership category at the Housing Digital Innovation Awards 🥳 ✨ This vital partnership provides the Southway Solutions Loan scheme, which gives tenants an affordable alternative to high interest borrowing options as well as a furniture loan, and the MyBnk Money Management course for 16-24-year-olds. MyBnk and Stop Loan Sharks England are also partners in the course. Having been shortlisted alongside 10 other amazing organisations we're absolutely thrilled to have been selected as the winner by the judges. Congratulations to Carecall, Stockport Homes Group, Virgin Media O2 & TSA for being shortlisted for this award 🤝 Our amazing teams were also shortlisted for the Best Digital Transformation and Best Digital Experience categories at the awards, and we're very proud their work has been recognised through these nominations 🧡 Congratulations to the Best Digital Transformation category winners Voicescape and Onward Homes and Best Digital Experience category winners Wolverhampton Homes!
