𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵! 📣 Hints and tips below 👇
As part of the Space Tech Expo Europe, Scottish Development International ran a 'Whisky and Pitch' event, where 25 UK Space Companies delivered a 90 second pitch to over 300 invitees.
Having a concise, impactful pitch is essential. Whether you’re pitching to potential customers, investors or future employees, a well-crafted, ready to go 'pitch' can be the difference between sparking interest and losing it. Being able to succinctly communicate your company's vision, solution and value with confidence and passion is a business essential.
Having the right structure is key to deliver the right information in the right order. 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚'𝙨 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩:
1️⃣ Hook: Grab attention with a powerful and thought provoking opening
2️⃣ Problem: Highlight the key challenge or problem your are addressing
3️⃣ Solution: Detail how your unique offering solves the problem
4️⃣ Market Opportunity: Explain the market opportunity, what sets you apart and the impact your solution delivers.
5️⃣ Call to Action: End with a clear ask or invitation to connect.
A great pitch needs to have 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 and delivered in an 𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙮 - It’s your chance to ignite interest, convey passion, and make your audience want to know more. Time is precious, so when you are preparing your pitch 'SCORE' it. Ask yourself, "is it...."
𝗦: Simple
𝗖: Clear
𝗢: Original
𝗥: Relevant
𝗘: Entertaining
Use this method to finesse your message. When it comes to Delivery, there are 6 "P"s for Pitch perfection:
☑️ Passion - If you are not passionate about your product or company, why would anyone else be?
☑️ Projection - Make sure the person at the back of the room can hear you. Project, don't shout
☑️ Posture - Shoulders down, chin up conveys confidence. If you are nervous, root yourself to a fixed spot and make eye contact with audience
☑️ Production - Look the part, use props to engage and use slides selectively.
☑️ Pace - Don't try to fit 5 mins of content into a 90s pitch. Aim for 120 words per minute, slow your pace, build in pauses and breathe!
☑️ Practice - Practice makes perfect - it builds confidence and removes 'ums' and 'ehs'
𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.... Whilst ensuring you have a clear call to action, try to leave your audience with a 'final thought' that will have them rushing to engage with you afterwards, or remembering your company for years to come.
Good luck, please share to your network and know we are here to support!
