Domestic abuse is more widespread than you think. If you suspect someone you know is being abused by a partner or family member, try asking supportive questions: How are you doing at the moment? I have noticed recently that you are not yourself. Is anything the matter? Is everything OK at home? Stay calm and hear the request for help. Remember that a victim/survivor can find it difficult to tell someone that they are subject to domestic abuse. . How confident would you be helping a friend or family member in this situation? It can be really challenging supporting someone who is being abused by a partner or family member. The most important thing you can do for them is to provide emotional support, listen to and believe them. Remember, a victim/survivor of domestic abuse is never responsible for what is happening to them, the responsibility always lies with the person who is causing them harm. If someone reaches out to you, acknowledge that they are taking an important and brave step forward by talking to you. 📅 25 November 2024 : Happy White Ribbon Day! This year Spelthorne Borough Council is proud to support White Ribbon UK in their mission to raise awareness and funds to end violence against women and girls and invites you to get behind the great White Ribbon UK campaign do. Together, we can educate communities, challenge harmful behaviours, and create safer environments for everyone. Daniel Mouawad, Chief Executive and White Ribbon Ambassador shares; "The White Ribbon campaign works towards ending violence against women and achieving gender equality. Together we can make a difference to the lives of women and girls, by creating a safe society. As the Council’s White Ribbon Ambassador, I believe that all men can make a difference by thinking about their own behaviour and being prepared to call out sexist and harassing behaviour when they see it. Together, Spelthorne can make a real difference, demonstrating allyship and support through impactful action and I encourage you all to purchase a white ribbon, or get behind the marathon fun-run with White Ribbon UK's "Race the Dark Challenge." 👟 Take action! To support the mission, purchase a white ribbon or purchase your fundraising pack and join White Ribbon UK’s Race The Dark Challenge, by running, walking, or cycling. This creates impact as you'll be: • Standing with women: raising awareness and change on daily precautions women take to stay safe after dark • Encouraging conversations around respect: standing up against harassment • Contributing to White Ribbon UK’s work of educating and enabling especially men to become allies, in advocating for safer spaces for all. Every step in your fundraising journey raises awareness of women’s safety and helps makes a real difference. 💪Let’s take meaningful action and stand in solidarity this White Ribbon Day and beyond. 💪 Together, we can build a future free from violence. #WhiteRibbonDay #EndViolence #SpelthorneSupportsSaferSpacesForAll 💪
