It’s been a real pleasure to work with Daniel Hook & Nas Al-Sabaeiova from Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby to develop their first Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan. This support has been made available to over 30 National Governing Bodies as part of UK Sport’s Accelerator Programme. We have been working on this landmark project with our friends Useful Projects and this is one of many more plans that will be launched that gives UK Olympic and Paralympic sports a roadmap to decarbonise and work across broader environmental sustainability issues.
Environmental sustainability – GBWR is helping to create a more sustainable sporting future. For 2024/25, GBWR launches its inaugural environmental sustainability strategy and action plan, supported through the UK Sport Accelerator programme with Sporting Giants and Useful Projects As a national governing body we have the platform, and responsibility, to implement and promote more environmentally sustainable practices throughout our community of staff, members, and partners. We recognise the importance of acting now to limit the impact of climate change and ensure we create a more sustainable sporting future. Read our environmental sustainability strategy and action plan: https://tr.ee/vAGJY3-_ar We will provide annual updates on our achievements through future publications of the strategy and action plan. “Sport has the power to change the world, it has the power to inspire.” Big thanks to Scott Over and Dan Reading CEnv CMP for this🙏🏼. Genoten!! #sustainability #esg #sportslaw #visserslegal

Thank you The Rivers Trust and River Action UK and Dan Reading CEnv CMP and Randa Kachef, PhD and Philip Bingham and Adam Freeman-Pask and Chloe Peck and Animal and Plant Health Agency and Tessa Wardley and Emma Brisdion and Alastair Marks and Alexandra Lily Fraser and Melanie Caumont and Samantha English for spending the day talking 'Water' and what we can do through our Rowing Clean Water Partnership to help it thrive. The day was excellently facilitated by Clarasys and we have a few exciting projects emerging out of it as we move from the education phase on the clean water strand of our strategy to the action phase.
It’s been just over a year that we’ve been working with British Rowing and yesterday was a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved together too with River Action UK - a collaboration also known as the Rowing Clean Water Partnership. At the British Rowing headquarters in Hammersmith, we connected with a range of organisations involved in making the sport more sustainable, and began planning our next big moves for working together to protect our rivers. Thanks for hosting us Rachel Dulai and Alexandra Lily Fraser!

The Sporting Giants team have just returned home after two inspiring weeks of sport. Over the last few weeks, the team have had a packed agenda supporting various clients including International Federations, National Olympic Committees and Brands. The team still took time to catch up with many friends in the Olympic movement as well as watch plenty of sport with highlights including: 🏅 International Olympic Committee – IOC Climate Awards finalists were announced with categories for athletes, federations and national olympic committees such as the Mauritius Olympic Committee who we have been supporting. We also celebrated when our new client, World Aquatics, joined the UN Climate Change Sports For Climate Action Framework at the end of the event, marking a significant step on their sustainability journey. 🌍 IUCN Sports4Nature (Olympic Edition - Stronger Together) - welcoming a number of new signatories and hear from existing signatories on their initiatives. 🥇 British Triathlon Federation celebrating Team GB's individual and team success at the British Embassy Paris with cucumber sandwiches and pimms(!). 🥇 Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 - Parc Des Champions - celebrating the Olympic medals from the day under the Eiffel Tower. A great idea we're sure we can look forward to being adopted by other OCOGs. 🥇Experiencing the celebrations and hospitality of Team GB House, TeamNL Huis (to watch the opening ceremony) and CNOSF's Club France and Oakley House (that surely throws the best party!). 🥇Visiting old colleagues and friends in Marseille as well as watching some sailing (when there was breeze!). 🥇Experiencing the buzz of Olympic weightlifting with the International Weightlifting Federation. 🥇Catching up with a number of GB athletes and support staff from the various National Governing Bodies involved with UK Sport's sustainability accelerator programme. As the dust settles, we congratulate all those that contributed to an unforgettable Olympics and we look forward to the Paralympics.

Can big sporting events be sustainable? It’s a question I ask in this long read for Sustainability Magazine, published yesterday. Huge thanks to AEG Europe and its brilliant Director of Sustainability Sam Booth for their help and total honesty (Sam calls festival and gig waste “monstrous” and says big event sustainability is not possible at the moment). Thanks also to Dan Reading CEnv CMP of Sporting Giants for expert insights. Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 is almost upon us. Despite some incredible efforts to mitigate, the impact on the planet will not be pretty. So should these events happen? Are sports, music and other set pieces big enough to trump net zero? Please leave your comments below. Personally, I love the Olympics, World Cup, etc, but I’m conflicted. #aegeurope #paris2024 #sustainability #sustainabilitymagazine
