This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme is 'Moving more for our mental health'. Our bodies and minds are connected, and that's why we believe PE is pivotal in nurturing the mental health of young people. Mental health is important to all of us, so we’ve been making moments for movement in the Sports Directory office by going on walks 🚶🚶♀️ A big thank you to the Mental Health Foundation for providing invaluable resources and tips, enabling us to actively participate this week.

We recently had the delight of visiting Danesfield Church of England Middle School, the proud winners of a competition we ran in partnership with Canterbury. This competition granted them an exclusive visit from Jodie Ounsley, also known as Fury the Gladiator! Jodie, the first-ever deaf female rugby player to have appeared for a senior England side, joined us for an unforgettable day. She kicked off with a coaching session for Year 7 and 8 pupils, where half of the students wore ear defenders to gain an empathetic understanding of playing sports with a hearing impairment. Later, she led an assembly and engaging Q&A session with some Year 5 students, who could hardly contain their excitement at meeting a real-life gladiator! They even got to practice her signature pose with her. Jodie's visit reaffirmed the transformative power of sports and the importance of representation. She reminded us all that barriers are meant to be broken, and with determination, the possibilities are endless.
