𝗬𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗜 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗖𝗘𝗢. He felt trapped. His team had tried Copilot, explored and demoed nearly every GenAI tool on the market. But the firm had no wins, no clear outcomes to show. And the options? Endless. Overwhelming. Here’s what he told me: “𝘞𝘦’𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 – 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨’𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦. 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘺 𝘦𝘵𝘤., 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦. 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸. 𝘞𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘥.” 👉 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙨. And it’s not just him. Law firm leaders everywhere are feeling it. I asked him, “𝘕𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮?” He started to talk about expansion, about boosting PEP. Then he paused. “𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘮 𝘐?...𝘞𝘦'𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 ‘𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩.’” 😳 Massive respect. It takes vulnerability to realize this. I reframed the question: “𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘨𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘵 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨?” He paused, then lit up: “𝘐’𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦'𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.” Boom. It hit him – his mission is bigger than just “growth.” I asked him what’s stopping progress towards that mission. He paused. “𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺. 𝘖𝘶𝘳 “𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴” 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 – 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦...𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘪𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳." 👉 Lack of clear direction means fear of making the wrong call. 👉 No room to experiment means no confidence to innovate. We talked about how he plans to move forward: By empowering through actionable values. When leaders understand the firm’s purpose and vision, they know what to aim for – and feel free to make decisions without looking back. Define a true mission, and your people will move boldly toward it. That’s how you empower your team – and future-proof your firm. Choosing the right technology and honing in on use cases to invest in will naturally follow. #OrganisationalPsychology #GenAIinLaw #LegalTech

Amanda C. - Thank you for the shout-out about our work with the charity Access Social Care and the work we've been doing together for the past 5 years to create #AccesstoJustice in the UK. Amanda's article explores how generative AI could bridge gaps in access to justice by offering scalable, personalised legal assistance, addressing challenges like financial and knowledge barriers. She mentions our chatbot for Access Social Care as a practical example of how tech can be used for good. It's an honour to have been supporting Access Social Care and we're super proud of the lives we've been able to help make a difference in. If you're curious to read more, the link is below.
Access to justice ensures individuals can assert their rights, resolve disputes, and hold others accountable, fostering a fair and stable society. Technology, especially generative AI, shows promise in supporting access through various ways detailed in the attached. I’m delighted to see organisations are already doing this, such as Access Social Care 🧡 This article is my first step in exploring a topic I’m deeply passionate about, which just scratches the surface. Thank you so much to David Chaplin for supporting with me this. Caroline Gould Kari Gerstheimer SCL - Society for Computers and Law Victoria C. Albrecht

𝟗𝟗% 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤. Last week, Partners at Global 200 US and UK law firms asked me: "𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 "𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙚" 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙄?" My honest opinion: Survival mode? It’s a scarcity mindset — and it’s holding you back. The real question is: 🔥 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘴 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘈𝘐 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥? This isn’t just a shift in tools. It’s a paradigm shift in opportunity. The next generation of elite lawyers isn’t thinking about 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 (minimising downside); they’re thinking about 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 (maximising upside). Because the best lawyers and law firms don't play to "exist". They play to WIN. 🤝 Here is the exact 3-step playbook we take our clients through once they've decided they are playing to win: 1️⃣ 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬: If you’re only “AI-aware,” you’re already behind. You need deep, hands-on understanding. Know the landscape, dominate the tools. It’s about unlocking leverage at scale. 2️⃣ 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲: Fast is the new normal. And for those who learn fast, adapt fast, and execute fast — the potential rewards are exponential. Get comfortable with speed or get left behind. 3️⃣ 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞: Continuous learning, resilience, a growth mindset. The tech is evolving; you must evolve faster. The lawyers who thrive here don’t just adapt — they build their own systems to grow with change. The pace of this change will only accelerate. For those who lean in, there’s no limit. The question is: Is your firm ready to play at this level? #AIinLaw #ExponentialMindset #LegalTech #Thrive #GenAIinLaw -- PS. Curious about the playbook results? Within 6 months of executing the playbook and onboarding #SpringLaw, clients report: - Adoption of GenAI (50%+ monthly active usage) - High confidence (80-90%) in AI augmenting, not replacing them - Ignited collaboration culture - Improved staff happiness (hence higher productivity) - Higher staff retention (hence lower costs for re-hiring) - Better service via faster results to clients (hence higher client engagement and shorter BD cycles for follow-on work) Drop me a DM to set up a meeting.

🤷♀️ "𝗜𝘀 LegalGeek 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴?" I got the same Q enough times I decided to write a post. So, here is my honest pro and con of Legal Geek: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀 ✅ 🤝 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 - 10/10 By a long mile, the best part is WHO is there, so the networking at Legal Geek is extraordinary. They keep everything accessible so you can genuinely meet and access anyone you set your mind to (provided you can find them). If you know at least 10 or 15 people who will be there, the chances of you running into them are high. 💰𝙏𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙚 - 8/10 Reasonable if you buy them early. ☀️𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 - 8/10 90% of people in the courtyard were there to catch fresh air, not smoke 😁. With a bar outside it would’ve been a 10/10 🥳 There are also nice spaces to hang out in the sun directly outside the venue. 💻 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙖 - 7/10 Quiet enough to send an email or have a quick meet, too loud for a phone call (but why are you having one of those during a conference day anyway ;)) 🍔 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 - 8/10 Good street food options for mains, healthy snacks. I’m a foodie so my bar is very high - the food was genuinely delicious. Potential improvements: faster lines, bigger portions. 🧥 𝘾𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙠𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 - 10/10 Well organised, easily accessible, friendly, included in ticket fee and open until 8 pm. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀 ❌ 🤯 𝙑𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙚 / 𝙉𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡 - 2/10 For me personally, the venue got way too loud. I spent most of the conference outside of the main halls. If you’re noise sensitive like me you absolutely must bring earplugs. 😨 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙𝙚𝙙 - 5/10 Day 1 was too crowded (could hardly move in the main hall), Day 2 was much better (hence 5/10) 😯 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚 - 4/10 The “what's happening where" and “what’s where” venue signage and directions could have been better, but thankfully the venue isn’t massive. 🥲 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 - 6/10 Probably my biggest gripe tbh. Some content was excellent, e.g. Nicola Shaver ‘s talk stood out. Overall, however, the emphasis at LG is clearly on quantity instead of quality, which leads to most talks being pitches, not valuable insights. One talk was genuinely just a black deck with slick white guys talking about how much money they raised. sigh. I’d recommend the workshops for anyone looking for more depth and to engage with like-minded people. 𝗧𝗟,𝗗𝗥; 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽. And if I had to pick just two UK Legal Tech events for the year, it would be Legal Geek and LegalTechTalk. Bonus: What I will bring again next year: - Hand sanitiser - Ear Plugs - A Springbok Water bottle (like Greg - see Photo ;)) - Throat drops to get my voice back every 20 minutes - Barebells Protein bar to fuel myself during the queue for lunch - Ryan T. Wightman and Edward Stevens, the Springbok AI wingmen ☺️🔥 I also brought my WeWork card and took private meetings in the nearest wework. Game changer. What are your Pros/Cons and what were your hacks?
