Zoey White has recently helped the Bristol Local Family Justice Board to produce the Guide to Family Court Proceedings for those who have experienced #domesticabuse. This guide is part of the 16 days of action against gender-based violence, which is an international campaign that runs from 25th November (the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10th December (Human Rights Day) and encourages action and awareness against all forms of violence against women and girls. The aim of this guide is to support those that have experienced domestic abuse and need an order from the Family Court to protect them and their children. This guide has been designed to answer some of the questions around the court process. The guide was written by District Judge Gareth Webb, Amy Finnimore, Trauma-Informed Practitioner, Cathryn Blyth from Voices and Emma Whewell from the University of the West of England. Zoey was part of a team of barristers and solicitors who all commented and greatly assisted in the production of this guide. Chambers is proud to have supported Bridging The Bar (BTB) in hosting 9 candidates from the BTB Academy as part of their Interview #Advocacy Training Programme. Bridging the Bar is a charity, founded in July 2020, that aims to support aspiring barristers from a range of underrepresented groups at the Bar. The candidates attended chambers for two weekend sessions where they took part in mock pupillage interview advocacy exercises and received feedback from our barristers Louise Asprey, Julia Belyavin, Sophie Smith-Holland, Justin Valentine, John Dickinson and Sophie Howard. Chambers was delighted to host the candidates and wishes them all the best with their future careers at the Bar! #pupillage #law #careers #legal

At the recent #inquest touching the death of Steve Dymond, HM Area Coroner Jason Pegg concluded there was no clear and reliable causal connection between Mr Dymond’s unfortunate death and his recent appearance on the ITV Jeremy Kyle Show. It was concluded that whilst “possible” the experience added to his distress it was not “probable”, reiterating the often-nuanced complexities of causation in the #Coroner’s #court. Deputy Head of our Clinical Negligence team, Louise Asprey and Beatrice Baskett take a look at causation in the Coroner’s Court with reference to the inquest into the death of Mr Dymond in the latest edition of the Action against Medical Accidents Lawyers Service Newsletter. Christopher Jones was instructed by Richard Nelson LLP to represent the claimant, Duncan McNiven, in his claim to establish a beneficial interest in a residential property in Tewkesbury. In 1982, Mr McNiven and his parents purchased a #property under the right-to-buy scheme. The property was conveyed to them as joint tenants. When Mr McNiven’s father died his interest in the property passed to Mr McNiven and his mother by survivorship. Read more full case summary here: https://lnkd.in/eBv98qNQ #highcourt #law #disputes
