The bloc’s robust trade links, rapid digital transformation, and the demand for sustainable infrastructure continue to attract investors. With a presence in all 10 ASEAN markets and decades of expertise in Southeast Asia, we can help turn market potential into possibilities through continued collaboration with our partners. “With a rapidly growing middle class and a burgeoning GDP, ASEAN may be the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030,” according to Sunil Kaushal, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Banking. • As one of our key markets, we’re passionate about celebrating Hong Kong’s vibrancy and creativity. Attracting over 100,000 local and overseas visitors, the Standard Chartered Arts in the Park event is the largest outdoor youth arts festival in Hong Kong. The carnival, which took place on the first weekend of this month, is the culmination of a six-month annual youth programme to improve self-confidence, creativity and leadership skills for thousands of young people. We’ve supported the programme for over two decades. We’ve had a presence in Hong Kong since 1859. Today, we’re connecting corporate, institutional and affluent clients to cross-border opportunities in Hong Kong and the world’s most dynamic markets across our network. We are proud to support the UK’s East Coast Cluster, a transformative initiative placing the country at the forefront of industrial decarbonisation and carbon capture and storage (CCS). By acting as mandated lead arranger and hedging bank in the financing of the Northern Endurance Partnership and Net Zero Teesside Power projects, we’re not just supporting the UK’s net zero goals but also helping establish CCS as a bankable, scalable solution that can help support the decarbonisation of the real economy. It was a pleasure to speak with Cat Rutter Pooley, Jose Garcia Cantera, and Alessandro Lolli at the Financial Times Global Banking Summit, for our ‘CFO perspectives’ discussion on maintaining the path to profit. We discussed the growth opportunities for Standard Chartered where we are continuing to grow our non NII income, currently half of our total income. Lower rates expectations will further fuel the growth of our strong non NII engines in Wealth, Global Banking and Global Markets, and we are accelerating our investments into these higher returning businesses. We also talked about the need to be disciplined on cost management whilst optimising the balance sheet in pursuit of growth opportunities. At Standard Chartered, we believe that digital transformation is an important enabler to enhancing the client experience and improving our productivity and efficiency. We are focused on upskilling and reskilling of our talent to harness the value of new technologies and having an innovation culture is key in the adoption of digital transformation. The success of our digital bank offering with Mox and Trust has helped to drive our innovation culture along with our SC Ventures business, which complements our core strategy. We are excited about the growth opportunities coming from the shift in the global corridors that trade, wealth and capital flow through. These play to our strengths as a cross-border corporate and investment bank and leading wealth manager focused on affluent, enabling us to continue delivering sustainably higher returns. Thank you to FT Live for inviting me and to my fellow panellists for such an engaging conversation. #FTBanking
