🎁 Making a difference, one box at a time At Steer, we are proud to support a range of charities this season through our Women in Steer (WiS) initiative. Colleagues across our UK offices—London, Leeds, Manchester, and Birmingham—have come together to donate essential items and gifts to local charities. 📦 In London and Birmingham, we supported St Mungo's by donating shoeboxes filled with essentials and small luxuries for women experiencing or at risk of homelessness. St Mungo’s works directly with people experiencing homelessness, providing services to help them find paths away from homelessness for good. 📚 In Manchester, we donated toys to Wood Street Mission, a children’s charity helping families in Manchester and Salford. This charity supports children’s well-being and development by providing toys, books, and essential items to children and families in need. 📦 In Leeds, we contributed to North^Church's Boxes of Hope appeal by donating thoughtfully prepared gift boxes for women, ensuring they feel supported and valued during the holiday season. These gifts are a small gesture with a big impact—reminding families and women that they are seen, valued, and supported during what can be a particularly difficult time of year. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, to the WiS team for organising, and to the Staff Forum for their support. Together, we’re helping to make the season a little brighter for those in need. #StMungos #WoodStreetMission #BoxesOfHope #socialimpact #womeninsteer #wearesteer

Steer was delighted to lead a multi-consultancy team to deliver a public realm vision and strategy for the Culture Mile BID to establish a greener, more connected neighbourhood with versatile cultural spaces. How was this achieved practically? Working with many stakeholders across the area, Steer worked closely with AR Urbanism and AUTHENTIC FUTURES LTD to build an extensive programme of engagement, completing a thorough assessment of background conditions. This was then developed into a project bank, drawing together short- and long-term interventions, then progressing these conceptual ideas into a cohesive strategy. julie bowerman, Director at Steer, said: “Working with stakeholders across the Culture Mile, including City of London Corporation, revealed a shared vision for a more connected and inclusive neighbourhood. By bringing together new programmes and enhancing existing assets, we’ve created an inspiring framework for the future. We’re proud to have been part of this transformational project and look forward to seeing these plans come to life.” Read more about the project: https://lnkd.in/eW-p2rJY #London #CultureMile #WeAreSteer

🌍 Driving Sustainable Change in Southwark Steer is proud to have been the technical partner for the freight workstream of the Southwark Climate Collective (SCC) Programme, a pioneering initiative funded by the UKSPF and led by Better Bankside BID. The programme focused on reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in Southwark through innovative and sustainable practices across the freight, supply chain, energy and waste sectors. 📦🚚 As part of the freight workstream, we conducted audits of freight activities across Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), developing a bespoke digital tool to help businesses log delivery, collection, and servicing data. Using this information, we provided tailored recommendations under four key themes: reduce, remode, retime, and reroute freight journeys. We also delivered a 3-part training series, supporting local businesses in adopting sustainable freight practices and amplifying the programme’s impact. The results? A 6% reduction in deliveries and servicing activity across a five-month period and enhanced collaboration between businesses to change freight behaviours. This successfully demonstrates the potential for data-driven recommendations to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality. We’re thrilled to be part of such a transformative project, showcasing the power of collaboration and innovation to tackle climate change. Together, we’re creating a more sustainable future. 🌱 To read more about the project, click here: https://lnkd.in/eMxbViqS Ali Memory Christa M. UK Airports: Connecting communities and driving growth ✈️ Last week at the AirportsUK Annual Conference, Peter Wiener, Associate, and Martin Lavrilloux, Principal Aviation Consultant, presented Steer’s findings on the economic contribution of UK airports. These airports underpin at least £159 billion GVA (6.4% of the UK economy) and support over 982,000 jobs directly and indirectly. Here’s how the £159 billion GVA breaks down: - Core airport activities: £11 billion GVA and 145,000 jobs from on-site activities. Including supply chain activities, this grows to £27 billion GVA and 271,000 jobs. - Airlines and exports by air: £26 billion GVA and 390,000 jobs supported by airlines. Air freight contributes £96 billion GVA (3.9% of the UK’s total GVA), with certain regions, like the North East and Wales, particularly reliant on exports by air. - Tourism: UK airports support £8.2 billion GVA and 285,000 jobs through inbound tourism. - International students: Airports underpin £2.4 billion GVA and 36,000 jobs through spending by international students, 74% of whom are based outside London. - Foreign direct investment: Airports play a critical role in driving at least £1.2 billion annually in inward FDI. These figures highlight how UK airports are not just transport hubs, but engines of economic growth, connectivity, and regional development.
