A recent project of the River Lea and likely floodplain reconnection works. Storm undertook a topographic survey of the River Lea and the immediate banks, in tandem with the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). Resulting in a bespoke River Digital Twin® (RDT®) which combined the topographic survey with high resolution LiDAR of the floodplain to combine into a single comprehensive model. The shift between the clips shows the real-life boat videos to the RDT/topo channel & finally a flythrough of the whole RDT®. The full case study can be enjoyed here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eabRdhme

Great to be involved with this emergency situation, supporting the Environment Agency & BAM UK & Ireland.
On the 4th of December this year, BAM UK & Ireland were asked by the Environment Agency to assist with emergency repairs to an embankment on the Jubilee Flood Relief Channel at Taplow. This engagement was under our Incident Support Contract on the CDF Framework. A large hole had appeared in the embankment following the heavy flows as a result of the vast volume of rain that fell in autumn this year. BAM was asked to assist with a temporary solution which would allow the Jubilee to be operated during the remaining winter months while a permanent repair could be designed. Following a week of optioneering it was agreed that the quickest way to secure the hole was to use a helicopter to installed rock bags in the hole. A multibeam bathymetric survey was carried out by Storm Geomatics Limited which identified an additional hole below the water line just upstream of the visible hole. Subsequent dive surveys by RED7 Diving & Marine Construction confirmed the findings of the bathymetric survey. Over two days, Thursday 12th December and Thursday 19th December, the team installed 250No. 1t rock bags supplied by Subsea Protection Systems Ltd. and 75No. Jumbo sand bags supplied by Bailey's of Norfolk. The material was installed by the superb services of Heli-Lift Services and their helicopter, pilot and ground crew. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen in a very short time frame especially our supply chain partners. Special thanks to Trevor Bingley, John Calder, Isaac Gant, RED7 Diving & Marine Construction, Heli-Lift Services, Subsea Protection Systems Ltd.. Without your support this work would not have taken place in this time window. #jubileeriver #helicopter #civilengineering #makingpossible

It's time to introduce one our new trainee surveyors James Walker, who recently completed his first three months with us. Let's here from James about why he choose Storm Geomatics to begin his Geospatial career. “My interest in surveying began not long after I turned 16 following a visit to a careers event, where the idea of a future in surveying truly stuck to me. With surveying always present in my mind I went on to study Geography, Physics and Biology at sixth form, developing a specific passion for land and the environment. When the exciting time of choosing a career pathway out of school came around, I knew already that I wanted to learn hands on and get myself into surveying. Combining my interest in land and love for the outdoors, I came across the Storm Geomatics YouTube page full of lots of interesting content which really stood out to me and led me to keep a keen eye out for an opening at Storm, where I was massively excited to see the position for Trainee Surveyor. Upon joining, my nerves were instantly put at ease by the help and support from this great team accompanied by a very clear and interesting induction, learning about an array of survey technology and software such as Georiver®. One of my first and favourite projects that I assisted on was a topographic survey amongst some stunning Welsh scenery where it was very interesting to see all the technology come together, as well as this the team was extremely helpful and were always there to teach me something new which made the week even more enjoyable. A definite highlight of my training has been the #DEFRA 1 and 2 Water Awareness Safety course, teaching me lots of vital knowledge on water safety and having a great time doing so. I have really enjoyed the ability to learn hands on and feel as though I am learning so much day by day. All in all, I have had a fantastic introduction to surveying, gaining lots of valuable experience in a very varied and exciting work environment where no two days are the same, and look forward to all future projects, training, and opportunities on this journey. I really appreciate all the time, help and efforts from the whole team and am especially grateful to join a group of such great and enthusiastic people.”

Starting the last full working week of 2025 with a celebration! 🥳 Our surveyors William Shanks and Tom Isaac have successfully achieved Technical Membership of Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Congratulations both, you are both future leaders of the Geospatial Profession. We believe that the expertise and professionalism of our surveyors directly impact the quality of our survey deliverables. What is the cost of not procuring surveys from CICES Qualified Surveyors? https://lnkd.in/eYp8JKRu

Today we showcase📢 the work of one of our Specialist RPAS Surveyors. Take a 👀👇 an insightful video Michael J. 👏
Interests in innovation, animation and simulation. Focus on Storm Geomatics River Digital Twin® | Junior RPAS Surveyor with knowledge in point clouds and photogrammetry | UAV Pilot with A2 CofC & VLOS GVC
Recently, I had the opportunity to work on an exciting RPAS project at Penton Hook Island, conducting a survey for Thames21 to map the flow routes across the island and support sustainable water management efforts.. The dense vegetation made it a challenging task, but by leveraging oblique LiDAR angles and flying during winter months, it allowed us to capture the ground detail we needed. A subsurface topographic manual infill survey was also conducted within the survey area. Check out this short video showcasing what we’ve been working on! Assets require maintenance and monitoring. Problem: Erosion and scouring of ancient features within a riverine environment. Possibly becoming dangerous structures over time. Solution: Monitoring to assess the condition of the asset. Then creating a digital twin that can be easily navigated by all stake holders. A River Digital Twin® will integrate hydrological, environmental and climate data into the scenario. To book your test drive around a RDT®. ☎️ 01608 664910 OR DM Mike Hopkins MCInstCES
