This #NationalApprenticeshipWeek Amaan Ahmed, Service Apprentice at Porsche Wolverhampton tells us about his journey. Why did you choose a career in this industry - what inspired you? "I have always been interested in cars from a very young age." How is your training going? "I really enjoy the training.  It’s a great working environment and the team are all really supportive." Do you have any key highlights? "It has to be training in the Lake District with other apprentices around the country.  We did team building exercises such as camping overnight, rock climbing, canoeing, and ghyll scrambling.  It was great fun." Do you have advice for individuals considering a career in the automotive industry? "If you really enjoy doing something then it doesn’t feel like work. As part of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, we caught up with Izzy from Stratstone Jaguar Land Rover Nottingham: ''My interest in the automotive industry started when I was little, as I grew up seeing the likes of Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May every week on Top Gear... my love and interest from cars grew. I was always captivated by their power, development and designs. I was never someone who excelled in school, and I thought that would limit my choices when I grew older, so when I saw the chance to do an apprenticeship learning more about my interests - I took the chance. However, it didn’t come without its doubts. Being a male-dominated industry, there was always a worry of my application would never be seen. All those doubts and worries were not necessary as I was elated to be given the opportunity to learn so much more about something I enjoyed doing whilst getting my qualification for the next three years, and I couldn’t of been welcomed to a better team. As an apprentice, you learn quickly that you are working in a place of honesty. It's is a place of work that accepts you for what you are, a place that helps you to learn and grow - with an occasional ouch moment or hiccup along the way. But, your colleagues genuinely care and they have helped me to find my direction and my future. Your commitment and hard work ensures the customer and their vehicle receives the best attention and more importantly is treated with respect. I've learned that when you put in the hard work, the outcome is that your days become great and you will learn new things and take pride in the Jaguar Land Rover name and the apprenticeship that you are involved with. Faye, a current year 3 apprentice technician at Porsche Centre Cambridge shares her story: “You need to put yourself out there and express what we can do and that there is no difference between what us women can do or the men. As apprentices we have a lot of opportunities. Training is a fantastic way to meet a lot of new people and interactions, gaining more knowledge and social skills to bring your own personality out. I have a strong passion for classic vehicles and my manager has given me a fantastic option on top of my apprenticeship and I am now carrying out a classic Porsche training course. At the end of my apprenticeship, I am going to have the knowledge that I need and the qualifications to move higher up the ladder to become a master technician in years to come. I may even go into training to teach all the new technicians that will follow our steps. Don't forget the apprenticeship is where you start!
