More content from the #DeriviaMiddleEast #conference where panelists discussed #index innovation, #ESG and customisation. Amna Hadziabdic, executive director, index client solutions at MSCI Inc. highlighted the drivers for innovation stem from customisation and #Technology. “We have platforms where clients can go on and simulate an index themselves,” Hadziabdic said. According to Elie GEAGEA, head of equity structured solutions at HSBC, some end investors could have misconceptions that investing in an #ESG index means sacrificing performance, which is “not in reality if the index is well designed.” Philippe Jacson, head of sell side #APAC and #MiddleEast, Index Investment Group at FTSE Russell, An LSEG Business, emphasized that clients often want to factor in their own research when looking into an index’s exposure or sector: “We've seen that the volatility target [indices becoming] very popular.” Read more (member access): ➡️ http://spr.ly/6041tTSfX #DeriviaMiddleEast #structuredproducts #indices #ESG

The #structuredproducts market in the Middle East region is at a stage of development where technology could trigger a leap forward, according to speakers at #SRP’s ‘Leveraging Tech Solutions to Increase Buy-Side Adoption’ panel at the #DeriviaMiddleEast #conference in Dubai on 20 November. “Over the past decade, significant innovation has occurred on the pre-trade side, with investment banks and distributors automating pricing for popularly traded products and payoffs,” said Pulkit Sangal, CAIA, a structured products specialist with experience in the sell- and buy-sides. One of the problems to faster adoption of technology from the buy-side in the Middle East is the complexity of adapting legacy systems to new infrastructure, “which often involves high costs and significant challenges”, according to Youssef Nouar, executive director, institutional sales at Leonteq. Ameer Khan, regional head of operations, real assets ME Apex Group Ltd added: “By leveraging technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning, fintechs can help issuers and investors navigate the increasing complexity of structured products.” Read more (member access): ➡️ http://spr.ly/6043tJkz3 #structuredproducts #DeriviaMiddleEast #Technology #fintech

Continuing with our coverage of the #DeriviaMiddleEast #conference, participants of the ‘Growing the Pie’ panel discussed the changes experienced by the region’s financial ecosystem over the past two decades. “The family businesses are much more open to sharing their wealth while the government-related entities have been monetized and put on exchange,” said Faisal Hasan, CFA, CIO at Al Mal Capital PSC Al Mal Capital. Standard Chartered’s global head of #structuredproducts Olivier Pierlot, CFA noted that the client groups for structured products in the Middle East are “very diverse” with distinct preference for underlying types and payoffs while Lily Chia of the SGX Group, emphasized the importance of trust. “The trust that there is rule of law in this marketplace, principles of fair, orderly, transparent markets, and that the authorities are serious about creating that market,” Chia said. According to Julia Hauser-Teuwsen, partner at ISP Group, more innovation is needed: “We have to give access to the capital market, maybe in a different way.” Read more (member access): ➡️ http://spr.ly/6040s2xH2 #DeriviaMiddleEast #conference #structuredproducts
