Following DEFRA's update to #SimplerRecycling regulations in England, SUEZ UK's Chief External Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Dr Adam Read MBE, said: “SUEZ UK welcomes today’s much-needed policy update. By clearly outlining a simpler, more streamlined and – crucially - consistent framework for recycling across England’s 300+ local authorities and recognising the role played by business, the government has taken an important first step in driving higher participation in recycling. For too long, the ‘postcode lottery’ of recycling services has created challenges for both consumers and the waste management sector. This clarification will help simplify collection practices while reducing the burden on households and businesses. That there is flexibility for local authorities to finesse their approach to reflect their particular area’s requirement is also good news which we will work with our municipal and commercial partners to deliver. At SUEZ, we understand the importance of building a robust circular economy that reduces waste, increases recycling rates, and supports sustainability. This policy aligns with our twin goal of reducing waste and increasing the quality of recyclables. We look forward to collaborating with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the successful rollout of these reforms across England.”

40 years of waste management in Blackpool 🚛 October marked 40 years since the waste transfer station off Chapel Road in Blackpool was officially opened by Jack Straw, MP for Blackburn at the time. Originally operated by Lancashire waste services before transferring to SUEZ UK in 2000, the site has managed more than 4 million tonnes of household and business waste over the 40 years – equivalent to the weight of 20 large cruise ships. The opening of a waste transfer station at the time was ahead of the industry, allowing more waste to be bulked together locally. Find out more here: https://ow.ly/1mxB50U7K0q

Keep Britain Tidy's #BuyNothingNewMonth encourages people to make the most of the stuff they already own and reduce their carbon footprint by buying nothing new – excluding essentials like food and medicine – throughout November. Here are some top tips from Keep Britain Tidy to consider throughout the month and beyond: ✅ Rehome it: Donating unwanted items is a great way to de-clutter your home. ✅ Use it again: 69% of UK adults say they try to #repair or find another use for an item before throwing it away. Upcycling and repairing helps to save money and protect the planet. ✅ Swap the way you shop: Renting, using refill stores, or buying second-hand is good for the environment. ✅ Have a buy less mindset: Buying fewer new things, repairing what breaks and shopping second-hand for the items you need, can help to reduce your carbon footprint. SUEZ UK's Chief External Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Dr Adam Read MBE, attended the King’s International Sustainability Reception at Buckingham Palace yesterday. The exclusive event saw leading figures from the public and private sectors come together to discuss climate change and highlight opportunities for collaboration on international #sustainability issues, ahead of #COP29. Speaking about the event, Dr. Adam Read said: “It was an honour and a privilege to be able to attend King Charles’s international sustainability reception at Buckingham Palace. It’s always inspiring to meet people and organisations that are making a significant difference to address climate change and circular economy delivery worldwide. The event was a wonderful opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with sustainability enthusiasts, big business leaders, NGOs and foreign ambassadors to discuss common goals and priorities. It was also promising to have a brief discussion with King Charles III about learning from our European partners on sustainable waste management, and why DRS is an important step forward for UK resource management.
