About us
Everyone has a role to play in helping Suffolk grow – in making this a stronger community and an even better place to live. Our role is to help you. Suffolk Community Foundation is making a lasting difference to the lives of people in Suffolk by connecting people who need help with those who are willing to give. We assist individuals, families and businesses with their local charitable giving and award grants to a range of charities and community groups that reach people in need throughout Suffolk. Our work spans every corner of the county; the grants we award supports a huge range of local projects such as relieving rural isolation for older people, creating opportunities for young people or providing vital equipment for community centres – all projects where a relatively small amount of money can make a big difference. People who want to give to the communities they live and work in often find it difficult to know where to direct their donations effectively. That’s where we can help. Being a local team, we have the experience and knowledge of local needs and so can help donors target their giving precisely to the problems they want to solve. By taking a targeted approach, you can really see the lasting difference your generosity makes. We see charitable gifts as investments in the future of Suffolk. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has awarded over £9 million to more than 2,000 charitable organisations across Suffolk over the past nine years. We currently manage over 60 charitable funds, totalling over £7.5 million in endowed assets. As a member of UK Community Foundations (which represents 48 independent community foundations operating across the UK) we are collectively one of the fastest growing UK-wide funders of local charities and voluntary organisations. We know your local community is important to you. Let’s make it better together.

The Sizewell C Community Fund is proud to support Young People Taking Action (CYDS). CYDS has recently been awarded just over £19,000 for youth engagement and detached outreach work. With over 20 years of supporting young people in and around Leiston, CYDS is well-placed to support young people living in areas impacted by the Sizewell C construction. With the funding, CYDS will be able to collate data and insights to inform a strategy for future youth work in the area over the longer term. The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to £23m to local charities, community groups and organisations which are delivering projects that benefit local communities in East Suffolk. We're excited to announce that Slaughden Sailing Club has received just over £4,500 from the Sizewell C Community Fund. The club was founded 50 years ago by workers from Sizewell who created a sailing club that today prides itself on its accessibility to the community and enjoys strong local support. The club participates in the annual school sports week and other community events. Funding was sought by the club to purchase an electric motor for a boat they owned, enabling the vessel to be used to transport and escort members and guests – increasing the confidence of those taking to the water and further increasing the accessibility of the club to a wider range of people in the community. With temperatures as low as -3 degrees forecast this week, we know that many of Suffolk's most vulnerable older people will be forced to choose between eating and heating. Our Surviving Winter Appeal, now in its 14th year, raises vital funds to help older people to stay warm and well when the cold weather hits. We're excited that Leiston Youth and Community Angling Society (LYCAS) has received over £6,000 in funding from the Sizewell C Community Fund. This community angling club was set up in the 1970’s so members know first-hand how an increase in the local population that comes with a Sizewell construction project brings an increased demand for access to the sport and their facilities. In order to meet this demand, the club sought funding to purchase angling equipment that could be hired by prospective members and guests. This enables LYCAS to provide a relaxing and enjoyable past-time to the new arrivals as well as an opportunity to enhance community cohesion. The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to £23m to local charities, community groups and organisations. These grants will help fund projects which in turn will support local residents impacted by the construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power station. Help Suffolk's most vulnerable keep warm this winter. Suffolk Community Foundation has launched its annual Surviving Winter appeal. We are asking anyone who feels able to make a donation to get in touch and support the growing number of pensioners who are struggling to heat their homes. The campaign has taken on even more importance than ever this year as an estimated 90% of older people living in the county are due to lose the winter fuel payment following changes to government policy. For more information including how to donate and how to receive support through our charitable partners, please visit www.suffolkcf.org.uk Citizens Advice East Suffolk Sudbury and South Suffolk Citizens Advice Gatehouse, Bury St Edmunds - Amanda Bloomfield Suffolk Building Society - Wendy Q. #survivingwinter
