I am delighted to share my experience as a researcher with Sunsave Solutions on the **GAMBO Project**. This initiative focused on interviewing beauticians, including barbershop and salon owners, to understand the various challenges they face and explore ways to address these challenges through the GAMBO Project, which aims to digitalize the beauty industry in Cameroon. My time on this research project was truly inspiring. Engaging with barbers and hairdressers and hearing about the passion they have for their craft was both eye-opening and uplifting. It highlighted the dedication and creativity they bring to their profession despite the obstacles they encounter. Through this project, I also developed stronger community-building skills and learned how to effectively interact with individuals of diverse personalities and backgrounds. This experience not only broadened my perspective but also strengthened my ability to connect with and understand people on a deeper level. Working with Sunsave Solutions on the GAMBO Project has been both rewarding and transformative, reinforcing the importance of innovation in uplifting industries and communities. After a rigorous selection process, I was thrilled to join the Gambo research organized by the Sunsave Solutions company. This research was based on the beauty industry in Cameroon (Barbers and hairdressers). During phase 1 of this project, I got the opportunity to interview a handful of barbershop owners and saloon owners, getting to know how their daily businesses function and the challenges they face. I'm grateful to the whole Gambo research team, especially Njume Alunge Ewane, our project coordinator, who ensured that the project was a success, and Mekila Ngwambe whose support and care were vital to the complete success of the project. And of course, my colleagues too, together we made a great team. I am thrilled to share my experience and thoughts on the Gambo research project by #Sunsavesolutions where I participated in collecting data through one-on-one interviews. This research aimed at unveiling the Challenges in Cameroon's Beauty Industry.This research delved into the obstacles faced by beauty professionals and entrepreneurs in Cameroon. We sought to understand the pain points and difficulties encountered in the industry. Key findings included; -These businesses experience frequent power outages, disrupting business operations - Lack of customers as a major challenge - Service pricing and cost of products and equipment to expand the business -Some of these entrepreneurs expressed their sadness to how people see and regard them and this caught my attention because it didn't ever occur to me that this was a possible challenge such business owners could face This research opened my eyes to see how many people are passionate about what they do, yet face a lot of difficulties to achieve all what they aim to get. I could also see that providing solutions for these barbing studios and beauty salons will go a long way to help them, and also increase community growth. Let's work together to empower beauty professionals and entrepreneurs in Cameroon! It has been a hectic week 🥲🔥 But then , 😁 I'm excited to have participated in the phase 1 of a research project organized by Sunsave Solutions . This research was focused on the beauty Industry ( babers and hair salon owners) and our aim was to assess the various challenges beauticians face as far as their job is concerned and to see how we can use technology to solve these problems. where in, I assisted in collecting qualitative data through interviews and focused discussions. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Sunsave's mission of digitizing the beauty industry 🙏 So far, the project has not only provided me with hands-on experience but has also allowed me connect with professionals in the beauty industry. I'm eager to continue with the next phase of our research and explore more innovative solutions.
