Sunshine Support
Education
Award-winning leading SEND organisation, empowering parents and professionals with advocacy, consultancy and training.
About us
We're an award-winning SEND organisation, providing independent information, advice and support to parents, carers and professionals of children and young people with special educational needs. We were founded in 2017 by Chrissa Wadlow after her own gruelling battle to gain her daughter a suitable education provision. Her journey, littered with injustice, was filled with a catalogue of errors and the family received very limited help from services they thought they could trust, creating irreparable damage for the entire family. It took 2 SEND tribunals, a high court case and one final SEND tribunal for Chrissa to gain the educational placement her daughter needs. It shouldn't be this hard. Chrissa could not allow this to continue to happen, and so formed Sunshine Support to help other families navigate their way through the process of Special Educational Needs to ensure they received the RIGHT advice and guidance from trustworthy experts. We have now helped more than 10,000 families across the country to get what their children need; gaining equity and justice. We provide access to independent SEND professionals whose specialisms cannot usually be provided through local government and health authorities.

Dr Pooky Knightsmith discusses the common experience of autistic girls who appear to be ‘perfect’ at school but then have meltdowns or shutdowns at home. This is often a sign that they are comfortable enough to let their guard down in their safe space, rather than an indication of poor parenting. It’s important for professionals to understand this dynamic. We will learn more about why boys AND girls present this way in our upcoming webinar by Dr Pooky Knightsmith - and much more! How often do you think about your body language when talking to children? For many of us, it's not something that we actively consider regularly but it's something we really should be thinking about if we want to communicate effectively. On Thursday 12 December, Dr Pooky Knightsmith will be joining us for a live webinar on 'Unlocking the reasons why' where she'll be explaining more about body language and all the other ways we can help our children to feel safe and confident to confide in us. It's going to be such a useful and informative session and we still have tickets available here: https://lnkd.in/eD36jk6m In the run up to the webinar, take a look at our latest blog post which explores why our body language is so important: https://lnkd.in/epGgHaYT
