Thanks to the ongoing support of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme, farmers and land managers in the Surrey Hills National Landscape are making a lasting impact. Since 2021, our programme has supported over 250 farmers, funded 35 flood reduction projects, and improved soil health across 3,600 hectares. 💬 Jim Simmons, NFU (National Farmers' Union), shared: “We are delighted by the news that DEFRA will continue their investment in the FiPL programme. The funding has been instrumental in supporting the legacy of our farming industry and underscores the vital role our farmers play in managing and enhancing our landscapes.” The continued investment in this programme is securing a brighter future for farms, wildlife, and communities. 🌍🌱 Read more https://lnkd.in/e8V6ZSfu With thanks to Sarah and Jenna Emmerton from the Surrey Hills team for all their work on this programme! #SurreyHills #FarmingInProtectedLandscapes #DEFRA #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainableFarming #CommunityImpact #FiPL National Landscapes Association

📣 Today, Surrey Hills Arts proudly launches Nature’s Anthem – A Journey through the Surrey Hills by Still Shadey, a MOBO Award-winning artist. Commissioned under the Arts Council England and Defra-funded Nature Calling initiative, Still Shadey’s work exemplifies the programme’s mission to co-create art that resonates with local communities and gives a platform for voices who may not traditionally focus on themes of nature and landscape. The result is a poetic rap, capturing the essence of the Surrey Hills. Filmed at Box Hill, a site integral to his creative process, the performance showcases the landscape’s profound influence on his work. 🌿A New Dawn for our National Landscapes 🌳 To mark the 75th anniversary of the National Parks & Access to the Countryside Act, the Government has pledged new legislation to strengthen National Parks and National Landscapes. This means greater protection for our natural world and more opportunities for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors. 🌍✨ Kathy Atkinson, Chair of the Surrey Hills National Landscape, says: "I am delighted that the new Government recognises the importance our National Landscapes and we look forward to receiving our strengthened purposes. During this 75th anniversary year we are continuing to work with a whole range of partners to help the Surrey Hills thrive for nature and people. But we know there is so much more to be done to lead nature's recovery, to strengthen our connection to the land and the landscape, and to rise to the challenge of climate change. We want National Landscapes to be at the forefront of this vision, which is as relevant today as it was when the Act received royal assent on this day in 1949." Read more - https://lnkd.in/evuiprX6
