About us
Sutton Music Trust provides high-quality music education to children and young people in the London Borough of Sutton. We deliver vocal projects, whole-class ensemble tuition, instrumental and vocal lessons, specialist advice and support for schools, a comprehensive range of musical ensembles, groups and choirs and lessons at our evening and weekend Music Academy. Sutton Music Trust is the lead partner in the Sutton Music Hub and has served the local community for over 50 years. Our vision is to create an inclusive service that helps every young person in the London Borough of Sutton to make, be inspired by, and celebrate the music they love. As a Music Hub, we work to fulfil the aspirations of the National Plan for Music Education. We are funded by income from parents, schools, and the Music Education Grant, administered by Arts Council England. Sutton Music Trust is one of Cognus’ 26 services commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton to provide education services to mainstream schools and specialist education providers in Sutton. Wholly owned by the local authority, we deliver a wide range of services to deliver excellent practice in schools and settings that improve the lives of children, young people, and families. As part of Cognus, we can collaborate regularly and work in partnership with our colleagues in other services. For example, we have secured money from Youth Music to remove barriers faced by children and young people with sensory impairments, the Autism service has provided training for our tutors, and we are developing our early years offer with the EYFS team. #makemusicwithus #cognusandproud

A wonderful afternoon at the Southbank Centre as the Future Brass project came to its culmination in a performance attended by family, friends, and members of the public. It has been an honour to oversee this project supporting the development of 40 young musicians. We worked in partnership with the Philharmonia Orchestra and four Sutton primary schools to create grassroots brass ensembles led by our team of fantastic tutors. Thank you to Adam Grady and Phil White for your support throughout, and to Madeleine Wood for capturing the day with some fantastic photography. We now hope the students carry on their brass journeys with Sutton Music Trust and continue to #MakeMusicWithUs! 🎶🎺 This project has been made possible by Partnership funding from the London Music Fund (Registered Charity No: 1141216), supported by The Karlsson Játiva Charitable Foundation, through the Signatur programme for the advancement of the art of music.

✨️ Congratulations to Michael - winner of the first Roger Willey Award for Promising Young Brass Players ✨️ Michael is a committed member of the Sutton Youth Wind Orchestra, and an outstanding mentor to our younger students. Starting with Sutton Music Trust in the Sutton Youth Training Band in 2012, Michael quickly progressed through the ensembles and learnt the Trombone with Roger as his tutor. He regularly grasps extra performance opportunities, including participating in the annual Young Musician of the Year event. Congratulations, Michael! 🎶 #MakeMusicWithUs
