Delighted to attend the Domestic Abuse Commissioner's report launch for 'Shifting the scales: Transforming the criminal justice response to domestic abuse' in Birmingham this morning and honoured to hear personal accounts from victim-survivors themselves. We welcome this report which grounds itself in sector research and echo the emphasis on improved data collection and integration across the criminal justice system; multi agency working; resourcing specialist services and regular training. We see the same obstacles for victims of stalking and stand behind the report recommendations, which will help ensure no victims fall through the cracks. Eagerly awaiting the government response that must be issued within 56 days.

Parks and green spaces should be accessible to everyone, but this research highlights that, currently, they are not. Women and gender minorities face barriers not only to utilising these spaces but also to feeling safe while in them. To address this, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust has been working with Dr Anna Barker to deliver our Stand Up Against Harassment bystander intervention training to parks staff and volunteers. This training equips them with the skills to intervene if they witness harassment and ensures they know how to keep themselves safe in the process. While this is an important step toward making parks and green spaces safer, it is only one part of the solution. More work is needed in the development of these spaces to ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, can enjoy the full benefits of green spaces. #RightToBeSafe

Sex and the City Park! #Gender differences can shape how individuals interact with urban green spaces and influence the psychological and physical outcomes derived from these environments. How do gender and sex influence psychological restoration and broader psychological experiences in urban greenspaces? This research « Sex and the City Park: The Role of Gender and Sex in Psychological Restoration in Urban Greenspaces » by Anna Bornioli et al., 2024 reveals that gender-related and certain sex-related factors significantly impact when, where, why, and how greenspaces are accessed and experienced. Women and gender minorities often face unique barriers to engaging with urban greenspaces, which can diminish their restorative benefits. Check it out! The Gendered City https://lnkd.in/dtT8sgbZ
