We're on the lookout for a COO to join our team and help us develop our internal operational capacity to support the growth of our organisation. The COO will join the Senior Leadership Team and drive the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategy and operational plan to support the longer-term evolution and growth of our organisation and its services. This will involve a focus on our IT and technical infrastructure with oversight of other business and governance functions. This position is a 2-year fixed-term contract. The role is a full-time hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days working in the London office a week. I'm always uneasy about the impact of this kind of post, as I suspect most people that follow me on this site are already supportive of trans people. And that is a great thing. This year’s UK Disability History Month (November 14th to December 20th) is centred on Livelihood and Employment. Research by #UKDHM has found that over the last 10 years, the number of employed disabled people has increased, narrowing the disability employment gap namely as a result of the introduction of remote working. Here at Switchboard, we offer volunteers the option to volunteer on our support lines from home, which helps reduce one of the many barriers disabled individuals face. Currently, 12% of our dedicated volunteers identify as disabled, with an additional  5% unsure or preferring not to disclose. We aim to continue to create an inclusive place to volunteer and increase the number of disabled volunteers to better reflect the diversity of the  LGBTQIA+ community we serve. Transgender Awareness Week takes place every year from the 13th to the 19th of November - a time for the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies to advocate for, and platform, trans and non-binary folk. All of our LGBTQIA+ volunteers and staff members stand proudly with our trans siblings and we always will. Intersex Day of Remembrance, also known as Intersex Day of Solidarity, is observed on the birthday of Herculine Barbin. Herculine Barbin was a French intersex woman who grew up in a Catholic convent and documented her experiences, including her same-sex relationships, in her memoirs. Although Barbin was assigned female at birth, she was later forced to identify as male. Barbin died by suicide at the age of 29, but her memoirs went on to inspire literature, plays, an opera and a film. Today, we remember Herculine Barbin and every other Intersex person who is no longer with us.
