  • The birth of Jesus reveals God’s boundless mercy, calling us to reflect his love through acts of compassion. ❤️ Today, that same mercy flows through compassionate action, bringing clean water to communities, supporting survivors of violence, and bringing vital aid to disaster zones. Let's ask God to comfort those in crisis, empower his church to show Christ's love, and strengthen our partners who bring hope to the suffering. Share this with someone you'd like to remind of God’s boundless mercy this Christmas.

  • Intense Tropical Cyclone Chido is set to make landfall in Pemba, Mozambique, on Sunday 15 December. With heavy rains and high winds, the storm has a similar intensity to Cyclone Freddy that caused massive destruction in southern Africa in 2023. Around 2.7 million people in six countries, including 1.7 million in Mozambique, are projected to be affected by Cyclone Chido’s passage. Tearfund’s staff and partners in Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa are working with the local church to get emergency messages to people about what they should do before and during the storm to stay safe, and they are coordinating with the local authorities and other aid agencies to be ready to support those affected. Judas Massingue, Tearfund’s Country Director in Mozambique, asks for prayer for our staff and partners and for everyone affected to find comfort and hope in the Lord.

  • We’ve launched a new digital waste picker rights due diligence toolkit! What’s this all about you ask? There are at least 20 million waste pickers worldwide who are vulnerable to severe human rights impacts while carrying out vital environmental and public health work. So, we’ve taken action! In November 2022, the Fair Circularity Initiative (FCI), convened by Tearfund, was launched by The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo, Unilever, and Nestlé. The initiative brings businesses together with the aim of ensuring the human rights of workers within the informal waste sector are respected and their critical role in circular value chains is recognised. With the introduction of our new digital waste picker rights due diligence toolkit, prepared by First Mile in collaboration with Tearfund, the main objectives are to: - Assess and analyse human rights risks and their root causes - Engage with waste pickers to ensure human rights impacts are prevented, mitigated, and remedied - Apply a gender lens throughout the process Are you a company, an NGO or social enterprise working in waste and recycling value chains? • 🌍 Communities living in poverty are hit hardest by the climate and nature crises. 🌍 Communities living in poverty are hit hardest by the climate and nature crises. The climate crisis poses a life-threatening challenge to all of us, but particularly to communities who live in poverty. At its heart, the climate issue is a justice issue. The Climate and Nature Bill is coming up for a crucial vote on 24th January, and we need your help to make it happen. This bill is a game changer that will: - help the UK meet its climate promises - protect nature and wildlife - support communities most affected by climate change - make sure no one is left behind as we tackle the climate crisis We need 102 MPs to show up and vote YES for this bill to move forward. Your MP's vote matters – whether they already support it or not! #ClimateJustice #CANbill 👉 Act now: https://brnw.ch/21wPjUj

Across Kenya, the changing climate has been crippling farming communities. A relentless cycle of drought and flooding has pushed people even deeper into poverty. In Turkana County where Hellen, a 55-year-old widow and grandmother lives, 82.7% of the population lives in poverty, which is the highest rate in Kenya. They have been among the worst hit by droughts of ever-increasing severity. Parents have been forced to choose between letting their children die from starvation or from eating rotting dead animals. Women like Hellen will walk up to 60km to gather wild fruit, at great danger to themselves, just to give their families something to eat in the hope of survival. ‘We struggled to get food… I was at the lowest moment of my life,’ Hellen told us,, after losing almost all of her goat herd and livelihood. To help her community survive, Tearfund’s church partner responded quickly with emergency support. Hellen had resorted to burning charcoal to sell so she could feed her children. The provision of three goats helped Hellen get back on her feet. This Christmas, will you help families like Hellen’s break the cycle of poverty? Donate today https://brnw.ch/21wPixD 📸 Tom Price

  • ✨ The Birth of Hope ✨ In a humble stable, a light dawned that would change everything. As Isaiah prophesied, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light." Today, that same hope continues to transform lives around the world. When disaster strikes, hope rises through our long-term Transforming Communities work - bringing divine light to communities in their darkest hours. The Christmas story reminds us: The birth of Jesus brings hope to the world, and through His people, that hope continues to transform lives. Share this with someone who you'd like to remind of the hope Jesus’ birth brings to the world.

In light of the escalating conflict in Syria, Tearfund’s Country Director there, Jaime Abraham, spoke about the way it is impacting humanitarian work: 'The situation is heartbreaking, some of the communities Tearfund works with were starting to get back on their feet after a decade of conflict, economic crisis and the earthquake, but once again they’re facing trauma and are afraid for their future. Some aid operations in Aleppo and the surrounding areas have been suspended until safe transportation and supply routes can be agreed. Tearfund’s partners are managing to keep some vital distribution programmes going, reaching about 1,000 families, but we urgently need more funds and supplies. Please pray for swift resolution, peace and stability. Pray that funding and aid get through, for humanitarians and civilians to be kept safe and for our church partners as they try to help and reassure their communities.'

  • More than a third of Pakistan’s population lives in poverty, and many people don’t have any access to the education and skills training that would allow them to improve their situations. Mehru, a mother in Pakistan, turned traditional embroidery into a pathway out of poverty. Through Tearfund’s local partner, LAMP’s self-help group, she learned to save, started her own business, and now creates beautiful embroidered clothing that supports her young family. What began as a small loan has blossomed into a thriving enterprise, bringing food security and hope to her children. Mehru's story shows how empowering women with skills and financial knowledge can break cycles of poverty and transform entire families. Read more of her story https://brnw.ch/21wPehR
