Terrorists are evolving – our training needs to evolve faster. A huge thank you to Tech Against Terrorism for having Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, our CEO, and Eleanor Ross, our Director of Game Design, on the show to discuss how serious games are pushing counterterrorism (CT) professionals beyond static training and into real-time decision-making. Some of our favorite takeaways: 🕹️ Fixing the CT training gap (15:34) – PowerPoint briefings and lectures don’t cut it. Games put players in high-stakes scenarios where they have to make real decisions, under pressure, in real time. The result? Participants actually retain what they learn. 📈 Terrorists are already adapting (21:44) – With asymmetric capabilities, violent non-state actors are constantly innovating. They embrace new tech based on cost, availability, and impact. Just as fast as terrorists have weaponized AI and drones, CT professionals must evolve their training to outmaneuver these growing threats. 🧠 AI is changing the game, literally (22:39) – What once took months, the Valens platform can now build in minutes. AI-driven tools let us rapidly create, iterate, and adapt CT scenarios as threats evolve. When al-Assad fell in Syria, we had a game ready to deploy that day to analyze what came next. That kind of speed wasn’t possible before. If you’re interested in how the counterterrorism field is evolving, this episode is a must-listen!

❓ #TVEC #CSAM #IBSA #GBV : if you know at least 1 of these initialisms and don't understand what these 4 initialisms have in common, you will learn A LOT by attending the 3 workshops brought together by Tech Against Terrorism and Trust & Safety Forum with the support from Videntifier. ↘️ In order to ensure interaction among the #trustandsafety experts from industry, NGOs and authorities, Caroline Humer, Louise Méloy and I have dramatically slashed the number of participants in the room. 🔒 Do not lose time reading the program of the Forum INCYBER Europe (FIC) to get more details, these sessions are private and upon registration, and pending validation by the organizers. 🫶 Thank you Sigurdur Ragnarsson for helping the community by be our partner for Workshop 2 on enhancing information sharing through technology.
Join Us in Lille! Tech Against Terrorism and the Trust & Safety Forum, with the support of Videntifier, are thrilled to announce three interactive workshops on the theme of "Hybridisation of Online Threats". 🌐💻 We live in a rapidly evolving digital space where technology and malicious tactics are used to harm online users. Online threats are hybridised, combining tactics like cyberattacks, #misinformation, and platform exploitation. Terrorist and violent extremist content (#TVEC), Child Sexual Abuse Material (#CSAM), Image-Based Sexual Abuse (#IBSA) and gender-based violence (#GBV) used to be separated. Not any more! Exploring these trends through our workshops will help you stay ahead of bad actors. Date: 2nd April 2025 - 9 am-3 pm 📍 Location: Room 3.3, Grand Palais, Lille, France 🎯Workshops 1️⃣Understanding and Addressing Hybridisation of Online Threats 2️⃣Enhancing Information Sharing Through Technology 3️⃣Dignity and Protection – Integrating Survivors of TVEC, CSAM, IBSA & GBV Please note: Space is limited, and we reserve the right to prioritize registrants based on expertise. so make sure to secure your spot even if you’ve already registered for the TS Forum. Truly appreciated this conversation 🎙️ that Eleanor Ross and I had with Lucas Webber for Tech Against Terrorism’s podcast. With my roots in the counterterrorism space, this discussion was particularly meaningful—exploring how games and simulations can transform training and decision-making in the CT field. Our two-year National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE)-funded study has given us deep insights into the learning outcomes of these tools, and we’re excited to share more findings in the coming months! 📊✨ Check out the episode below! 🔗🎧
