About us
TEDxBristol is one of the largest TEDx events in the UK, delivering talks to sell-out audiences, working with creative partners across the UK and reaching a global audience online who enjoy watching and sharing our talks and films - wherever they are on the planet. As an independent, voluntary, not-for-profit organisation founded on sharing ideas, we are dedicated to creating thought provoking, original, world-class TEDx talks and delivering inspirational, inclusive and friendly TEDx events in Bristol. TEDxBristol is delighted to have been granted a ‘level 2’ licence by TED.com. This means we're able to run events over two days. In November 2017, we attracting 4000+ delegates and thousands more joined online. In 2015 TEDxBristol played to a sell-out audience at Colston Hall, trended 7th in the UK on Twitter and reached 2.7 million people online. Look out for news of our next event in the Autumn of 2019! What is TED? TED is a nonprofit devoted to 'Ideas Worth Spreading'. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences -- the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer -- TED includes the award-winning TED Talks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize. What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBristol, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBristol event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised.

Have you ever felt the pressure to conform and hide who you really are? It can be a lonely place and especially for those who aren't deemed neurotypical. The fact is, most of us on LinkedIn can probably identify with that feeling, whether in work or our daily lives. Suzan Issa's TEDxBristol talk explores the hidden loneliness of masking our who we are and the freedom we get when we ditch those masks and embrace our true selves. It's a powerful, thought provoking and important talk that I believe will have a massive and positive impact on the wellbeing and inclusion of so many. Everyone should watch this talk. During the marches in support of Black Lives Matter, a statue of historic slave trader Edward Colston was pulled down and pushed into the Bristol harbour. On that now empty plinth, Jen Reid climbed up and stood tall, raising her fist. In that moment she became an icon. Watch Jen's TEDxBristol talk about the power of statues and art and the impact our ignorance to their context can have on society. https://lnkd.in/ex8XiKgc #identity #history #bristol #TEDx #racism #BLM
