We're changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families who've been affected by terminal illness.

About us

Teesside Hospice offers palliative care for people over the age of 18 who are living with a life-limiting illness when a cure is no longer possible. Our care is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year and reaches thousands of local people. We know how challenging dealing with a life limiting illness can be. Our expert medical, nursing and allied health professional team offer pain and symptom control, psychological support as well as end of life care. Each year it costs £2.8 million to provide our care. Grants and NHS funding cover around a third of this cost, which means we need to raise £6,000 each and every day of the year to keep our services running. Your valued support will help us ensure the future of your local hospice.

  • Leaving a legacy or a gift in your will to Teesside Hospice is one of the best ways to support local people like Lee living with a terminal illness, helping them live as well as possible for as long as possible. Lee’s wife Jen shared with us their story and how Teesside Hospice has given him permission to live his life in hospice care: “Lee was diagnosed very unexpectedly with a very rare form of cancer in November 2023. It came as a massive shock to us and further scans revealed that it was at stage 4. In November, our designated Macmillan nurse talked to us about the Hospice services that may be available to Lee. At first, he didn’t want to consider it - I think through fear that he always associates the term hospice with dying. Having seen Lee in lots of pain, my concern was that, as his illness progressed, it would be very difficult to support him at home with regards to pain management. I was reassured that the Hospice was an option that would allow Lee to have the support he needed, but more importantly, the dignity that he also desired. From the very start of Lee’s hospice admission, it felt as though Lee was being given permission to live his life (a very different feeling to when he was in the hospital, where he felt he was waiting to die). As a family, we had made no plans for Christmas as we were told in the hospital that it was unlikely Lee would survive that long. As it was, Lee got his wish to attend Church on Christmas Eve and see the children open their presents on Christmas morning. The fact that I am able to stay overnight brings comfort and reassurance to Lee. When thoughts creep into your mind in the middle of the night, the nursing staff are always there to help. This reassurance has made such a big difference to our journey. I know I can’t change the outcome, but I feel far better prepared than I ever have before. Our children (Aged 16, 14 and 6) have also found comfort in knowing that whilst their Dad is very poorly, he is safe and in no pain. They also originally thought they would not want to come into the Hospice - they were scared. But now they feel comfortable being able to sit with Dad and chat about their days. We were overwhelmed by the Hospice's support that allowed our eldest daughter to spend her 16th birthday with her Dad at the start of January. The Hospice has touched our hearts and we will always show our support going forward for everything that they have done for us. We feel very fortunate that Lee has been able to access the services of the Hospice and I would always recommend to any family that if this support is available to them, do not hesitate in accepting it.” Help hospice care live on. Leave a gift in your will and help us to continue to fight for hospice care in the UK, ensuring that people in Teesside can die with dignity, surrounded by the best care. https://loom.ly/oMteKA4

  • Leave a Gift in your Will and help it live on for all, for now, forever 💜 Preparing a will is one of the most important steps you can take to protect the future of those you love. By putting your wishes in writing, you ensure that your family is cared for, your assets are distributed as you intend, and charities close to your heart are supported. Funding remains a challenge for many hospices across the nation, but legacy income is an important and growing source of funding. Your gift to Teesside Hospice could help us fund: 💜Provide essential training to frontline hospice staff caring for people at the end of life. 💜Make sure those who are currently missing out can get hospice care by working with the government to ensure that hospice, palliative and end of life care stays high on their agenda. 💜Respond to a family in their time of need, helping them get the support, guidance and care they need. 💜Improve hospice care by giving hospice staff the resources and tools they need to better care for people. 💜Support carers in the community looking after people in their own homes at the end of their life. Because we care about you and your wishes, we invite you to consider leaving a legacy to us. Help us ensure that people in Teesside can die with dignity, surrounded by the best care. 🔗 Find out more at https://loom.ly/oMteKA4 ✉️ Register your interest at fundraising@teessidehospice.co.uk or call us on 01642 811145

  • This is hospice care. Last year, legacies and gifts in wills helped us care for 69 people in our specialist In-Patient Unit, helping more people like Helen and her family: “My name’s Helen, I’m 42 years old and first got diagnosed in 2017 with stage three breast cancer. I’ve battled multiple diagnoses of cancer over the years, with many treatments including a mastectomy, radiotherapy, and numerous rounds of chemotherapy. Ever since my first seizure in September last year, I’ve been slowly deteriorating. I just haven't been myself, I don't look like myself and I didn’t act like myself. I’ve been able to do less and less things, and it’s been heartbreaking for the kids to see. I’ve got a son, Lucas who is 17 and a daughter, Imogen who is 13. For young kids you don’t expect your mum to be in a hospice at their age, and I’m so proud of how open they are to talking about their feelings. Lucas is really trying to keep his mind off everything, and is keeping himself busy by doing some fundraising for the hospice which I think is really lovely. My sister in law also decided to create a go fund me page to support me, and at first I felt too proud and wasn’t sure about it. I don’t have any savings or life insurance, and thought the page might be useful for paying for my funeral as I don’t want to leave a burden to my family. Within a week of the page being set up, she raised £7,100 and I was just in tears. I was blown away because I don’t even know half of the people who have donated and supported me. When Dr Deane came to see me and told me that it was time for me to come back into the hospice after Christmas, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. When the kids come and visit me you can visibly see that they are happy that I’m here. They clearly feel like ‘yes, mum is at the hospice, she’s safe and looked after’. My room is filled with flowers, my own bedding, photos of me and the children, and Imogen is going to help me set up the room to make it feel like my own. It makes such a difference and feels like home. It’s a place of peace here. Some people think of a hospice as just somewhere you go to die, but that’s not how it is, and even if you do come here to die, it would be in a dignified and holistic way. If I had the money, I would definitely leave a gift in my will to the hospice, so that people like me could get the same care and dignity that I’ve received.” Everyone deserves to be cared for at the end of life, but sadly one in three people won't get this care. You can help every Helen, every family and friend, everyone, get the end of life care and support they need. Help hospice care live on and leave a gift in your will, so we can help more people like Helen and her family. • We're thrilled to be Anna Turley, Redcar and Cleveland MP's Charity of Choice this year! "As your MP, I always try and support great local charities who do amazing work to support people in times of need. I like to have a ‘Charity of the Year’ and am delighted to announce my charity for 2025… This year I will be supporting Teesside Hospice because they do such amazing work changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families who've been affected by a terminal illness. They looked after a dear friend of mine last year and made his last weeks as peaceful as could be hoped for. I also speak to so many constituents who have benefited from their support both in the hospice, and at home and in the community. I will be undertaking a number of challenges and events this year and will be announcing the first very soon - something every month of 2025 - and so I’m so grateful to everyone for any support you can provide." We can't wait to see Anna's fundraising journey for us this year, thank you so much for your amazing support! 💜
