🇵🇹 Can self-awareness be an indicator of a more mature industry? It was a true pleasure to once again participate in the Lisbon Blockchain Conference as a speaker and I must admit that I’m truly happy to been given the chance to speak amongst a group of speakers that are extremely self-aware on the real problems and barriers to web3. I believe that a truly good panel is one on which we discuss with each others what we really think while being open to discuss in a manner that is contrusctive and realistic instead of just speaking about the popular technical yet non-precise view of our current trends and problems. There’s a lot we still need to go through before we see mass adoption: - I don’t believe we will see mass adoption via our current protocols, but instead we will need traditional brands/companies, these will offer and use web3 without the users even knowing or caring as long as there are clear benefits. - We are still too focused on the financial aspect of web3 while completely ignoring its other utilities (example: healthcare), we just care about farming as much dollars and points as possible and retiring early. - We still wrongly believe everyone will care about web3 (do people care about the internet? They care about its benefits!) - We still don’t know how to easily explain our concepts or what blockchain/web3 is to regular people, specially when current world population isn’t financially and tech literate. - On the other end we blame people for being too technical where instead we need to find a balance where technical speech is used internally for time/precision reasons while explanatory speech is used externally. Ps: Wanted to appreciate my fellow colleagues and speakers for such a great panel: João Nuno Simões, Rafaella Orelli 欧艾乐, Pedro Cerdeira and Guilherme Lima! And finally mention it felt good to be back to my home city which is without a single doubt the best city for web3 in the world!
