Terrafarmer's Tom Tolputt spent a very positive Friday at the inaugural LandAlive conference, the new sustainable food and farming conference for the South West: "Land Alive exceeded our expectations. An excellent range of plenary speakers and thought-provoking breakout sessions, with the 'Financing Farm Transition' and 'Can Farming Ever Escape Its Glyphosphate Dependency' being particularly well received. "It was a pleasure to speak alongside Tamara Giltsoff and Francis Clarke and Lucy Noad on the importance of soil health data -- and data in general! -- for farm businesses going forward. As the saying goes, you can't manage what you're not measuring and monitoring. A special thank you to Francis and Lucy for speaking so openly about their own experiences and journey. It was clear just how useful the delegates found it. "Overall, Land Alive was a very engaging conference and a welcome addition to the South and Southwest agricultural event calendar. Just a shame we couldn't stay for Day 2 on Saturday!" Find out more at https://lnkd.in/dMx2HduP 🐄🌱🪱🦋🌽🚜🐄🌱🪱🦋🌽🚜🐄🌱🪱🦋🌽

"Next year will see a 76% reduction of the first £30,000 of a payment, with a 100% reduction for any amount over £30,000. This means the fastest reduction in subsidy for large farm businesses. For example, a 450-ha business that claimed around £100,000 in 2020 will only receive £8,000 next year. This will pose significant financial challenges, especially for farms heavily reliant on this income to offset high operational costs." Terrafarmer’s Agribusiness Consultant, Jack Pierce, considers the challenges—and opportunities—for farming businesses presented by the 2024 budget. 👀 Read our latest blog 👇 https://lnkd.in/es8Nfkga #TheBudget #TheBudget2024 #SustainableFarmingIncentive #CountrysideStewardship

Tough day yesterday listening to the budget from a farming perspective. There are some clear challenges which will be faced in due course, but the brutal reduction in Basic Payment Scheme will have a huge impact on the cash flow next year… There is some good news for farmers faced with flooding and the £58M for research and innovation. I look forward to seeing clarify on schemes and actions from Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP and the team shortly. For me the key is the engage, evaluate and adapt. Do not wait to the end of the agricultural transition to take action. There are opportunities within the farming sector to add value and improve business profitability. Please do get in touch if you want to talk farming, soil health, funding or sustainable practices .

🌍 Why Transition to Regenerative Farming? 🌱 At Terrafarmer, we're dedicated to driving the future of agriculture through regenerative farming. But why is this shift so crucial? 🔄 Restoring Ecosystems: Regenerative farming goes beyond sustainability, actively healing the land. By promoting biodiversity, improving soil health, and increasing carbon capture, we help create a thriving ecosystem. 💧 Water Conservation: Healthier soils mean better water retention, reducing the need for irrigation and protecting our planet’s most valuable resource. 🍃 Healthier Produce: Nutrient-dense soil produces healthier, tastier food. It’s better for the planet and better for you. 🌱 Resilient Future: With climate change posing growing challenges, regenerative practices offer a more resilient way of farming—protecting both farmers and our food supply.
