Architect & Earth-centred Design Strategist. Make systemic shifts happen in the Built Environment sector through meaningful design practice, community engagement, and co-design.

Really excited to share the Community page on TerraLupa... sometimes we don't realise how far our reach is until we start taking stock of all the connections we've made over the years. The best part is - the work on making all these connections meet! The page features some really exciting projects, organisations, and initiatives we've been a part of one way or another: as a participant, contributor, facilitator, active in the leadership, or simply as someone that loves what they do. And the page is growing...! The Bio-Leadership Project Artspace Lifespace The Association of Collaborative Design Sophie Chatziapostolou Anton Chernikov Martin Brown - you're featured too!

  • Today, Javier Gras Guisado will co-facilitate a workshop in Madrid titled "Work & The City: Life-Centered Design" alongside Matías Rodríguez Chiacchierini from STUDIO BANANA. They are beacons leading the way to regeneration and we are so excited for next year's cohort. 🍄 Quote from the Managing Director of Immersion Lab Michael Maddison: "The Fellowship has enriched my understanding and application of systems thinking, enhancing my ability to implement systemic change effectively within organisational contexts... The experience has brought new concepts and a visionary approach to our organisation and has deepened our collective understanding and application of these ideas." Civil Engineer bringing regenerative practices into the Built Environment - TerraLupa. Supporting businesses to shift their cultures to protect life and the planet. Outreach & Partnership Lead at Bio-leadership Project.

Last week we had the chance to participate at the Blue Earth Summit with The Bio-Leadership Project! Erica Neve FRSA, Jamie Pike and myself designed and facilitated a Panel Discussion and a Workshop, where the intention was to create a space to talk about how are we navigating the tensions between purpose, profit and planet in our businesses and current systems of work, and hopefully learn and support each other. We started the day with the Panel, with amazing guests Anuradha Chugh, Verônica Manguinho de Souza, Frieda Gormley and Alex Beasley, facilitated by our amazing Erica Neve FRSA that set the tone and brought up a very interesting conversation around leadership, governance, finance, and of course PEOPLE. Then, we had the opportunity to facilitate a more intimate workshop (more than 60 people came!!) where we brought back the conversation that was started in the Panel and proposed some framing questions for people to work around their own challenges. People left the workshop with a smile in their faces and wanting to connect more. If you are struggling with this topic in your organisation, if you want to connect with purpose-led businesses, learn and support each other, send me a message, we would love to help. Thank you Rosie Riley one more year for putting together this conference. Hard work! And thank you the entire Bio-Leadership team for supporting during the entire conference! Andres Roberts, Ella Wiles, Thomas Mansfield, Christina Williams!! And so amazing to connect with all the Bio-leadership Community!! I also felt very inspired by Indy Johar´s Panel Discussion. I feel there are so many dots to connect with Dark Matter Labs and TerraLupa :)

  • We are grateful to Greengage Environmental Ltd for providing us a platform to talk about going beyond “targets” in delivering regenerative communities because we need more spaces like this to navigate these crucial questions. Kara de los Reyes closed the panel session with 5 common themes she drew from all the talks, workshops, and conversations she had on regenerative practice over the past 4 years. “We simply cannot afford Regenerative practice to become a trend…it must become the norm…” - KDLR It was a lovely morning framed by Ben Webb from Planit sharing their journey as a practice, Elaine Olphert from Goram Homes showcasing their developments and focus on community. #regenerativedesign #regeneration #climatecrisis #builtenvironment

A fantastic start to the day in #Bristol listening to James Bumphrey, Elaine Olphert RIBA from Goram Homes, Kara de los Reyes from TerraLupa, and Ben Webb from Planit exploring the vital shift from mere target-setting and checkbox thinking to adopting a regenerative mindset. The discussion highlighted what "regenerative" truly means in the context of the built environment and what we need to do to adapt to this transformative way of thinking. A massive thank you to our brilliant panel and to Design West for hosting our event. It was great to see you all! #regenerativedesign #netpositive #naturepositive #resilientcities #TheGreenAge

  • This is an awesome graduate project shared by @urbandesign.lab showing how resilience means working as part of nature, and not separate from it - not battling it. It reminds me of Kongjian Yu's Sponge Cities. Curious to know how this would this approach deal with waste and pollution? Perhaps this is a great opportunity for an opensource collaboration! #resilience #resilientdesign #urbanplanning #urbanlandscape #landscapedesign #regenerativedesign #regenerativecity #regenerative

Follow @urbandesign.lab Amphibious Bangkok: Creating a resilient landscape framework for amphibious urbanisation and fostering human and water coexistence This graduation project “Amphibious Bangkok” aims to tackle these issues by exploring the application of a ~resilient~ landscape framework to increase landscape capacity in coping with current flood problems and future climate uncertainties. The study draws on the historical human-water symbiotic relationship to create the new landscape design and planning proposals. These plans will integrate the top-down and bottom-up approaches and provide the multi-scale amphibious landscape networks as the basis for more sustainable urbanisation. 👥 Project by: Akarapol Chongwattanaroj

  • Increasing awareness of the language and terminology we employ in our daily lives can contribute to preventing further harm to ourselves and our ecosystem. Survival International has published a brief guide on decolonising common terms used in conservation. What would our build environment version be? #language #rightlanguage #builtenvironment

Architect & Earth-centred Design Strategist. Make systemic shifts happen in the Built Environment sector through meaningful design practice, community engagement, and co-design.

Navigating a professional space that prioritises commodification over genuine connection poses significant challenges to authenticity. Even here on LinkedIn, where ideas are often mined and harvested, it's easy to overlook the potential harm in our language and interactions. When we fail to recognise the harm we inflict on ourselves and others, it raises questions about our awareness of the broader systemic issues at play. Personally, I've encountered situations where knowledge was exploited, diversity was tokenised, and ideas dismissed or patronised because they challenged the status quo. These experiences highlight the need for a deeper examination of our communication norms and a willingness to embrace alternative perspectives. Recently, I came across some thought-provoking insights regarding the language used in discussions about the built environment and climate-positive initiatives. Participating in an Intro to Decolonial Sustainability course offered by Possible Futures was eye-opening. It prompted me to ponder whether our current terminology requires a significant overhaul. Terms we use day to day such as "sustainability", "resources", "net-positive," "biodiversity net gain," and "nature-based solutions" are being scrutinised for their colonial undertones and limitations in fostering truly inclusive and equitable discourse. The call to decolonise language, as advocated by resources like Survival International, underscores the importance of reevaluating the words we use and the narratives they perpetuate. It's a challenging yet necessary endeavour if we are to truly advance towards more just futures. I'm not saying this guide is absolutely right, or comprehensive by any means...mainly because it's just focusing on conservation - but it does open our eyes a bit wider so we can't un-see. #language #netpositive #biodiversity #netgain #naturebasedsolutions #communication #builtenvironment
