Aeronautical projects take many years to be developed. Students need to be involved early on: they'll be designers, managers and even customers. Therefore, for OceanSky Cruises , Jekta and MBVision, I involve my own and other institutions' students for challenging projects. Not only engineering, but also product, communication, interior, service design and architecture. This is the poster of the workshop carried out with Konstfack in Stockholm: more than thirty students worked on the design of a futuristic passenger airship assisted by Carl-Oscar Lawaczeck and myself, supervised by their professors. In addition to Konstfack, I involved students and colleagues from ISIA Firenze, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Creactivity and Università di Pisa

How does Altaeros UK collaborate with Altaeros US on aerostat production? When the Altaeros US team provides the aerostat envelope design, the UK design team converts it into flat patterns suitable for cutting on the 21-meter CNC cutting table. A production team meeting is then held to plan the cutting and assembly process. Each aerostat envelope includes the hull, fins, and internal ballonet system, all constructed from high-quality, leak-proof, tear-resistant fabric. These components are manufactured using a variety of processes, including hot-air welding, sewing, high-frequency welding, and adhesives. Once all parts are fabricated and assembled into a complete envelope, the team conducts a test inflation and performs a detailed quality inspection of every inch. After passing all quality checks, the envelope is packed and shipped to the US for final assembly with the hardware.

Episode 10 of my airship history podcast is out now!! As political tensions escalated across Europe, the major powers engaged in an aerial arms race to develop their airships into war-winning weapons. Britain struggled to keep up with its continental rivals. Italy was the only country to deploy their airships in combat pre-WW1. France built an impressive fleet but were unsure about its use. Germany dominated the skies but suffered several high-profile, devastating crashes. This is the story of how the airship prepared for war.
