We're supporting the #FreetheTree campaign led by Russell Ball at Fund 4 Trees🌱 There could be tens of thousands of these strangled-on-stake trees across the UK. In private gardens and along the side of roads, in car parks and housing estates, in schools and open green space – wherever trees have been planted, this issue can often be found. Through a lack of good aftercare or a lack of understanding, these trees will struggle to establish in the landscape, with many dying as a result. How to spot a strangling tree-tie ⬇️ 📆 Are you aware that the tree was planted more than three years ago? ✋ Is the tree-tie overly tight and very difficult to move by hand? 🔎 Can you see a difference in the texture of the bark behind the tree-tie? 🌳 Is the trunk bulging above or below? 🪢 Is the tree-tie frayed or are the posts rotten? What to do⬇️ 📲 Make contact with the owner of the tree – this may be a homeowner, a local council, a highways authority or a management company. 🌱 Advise them of the issue and suggest to them that they investigate with a view to removing or adjusting the tree-tie. 🤝 When appropriate, the owner of the tree may appreciate an offer of help. Supported by Royal Horticultural Society and The Tree Council Find out more: https://lnkd.in/erDNDRQV Download the poster: https://lnkd.in/eyM2puu8

Arboricultural Association reposted this
#Freethetree Proud to launch our Fund 4 Trees public-engagement poster (with special thanks to Steve Hodsman). In collaboration with Arboricultural Association, we'll be running a national social-media campaign to 'get the message out far & wide' within the public realm so strangled on-stake trees can be freed. Thanks to Kenton Rogers MICFor for his LI postings and getting the debate started. Also to Mark Gush and Mick Boddy. We will also be collaborating with the RHS Becky Mealey and the Tree Council: to both target and spread the net even wider. #Freethetree needs you so please spread to word to members of the public, gardening clubs, resident associations.......in fact any interested parties you know in your local community. This campaign forms part of the Fund 4 Trees tree establishment research work and projects (including our Urban Tree Life Cycle) that we'll be focused on during 2025. There'll be some exciting announcements and developments so please keep posted. #freethetree #arboriculture #landscape #publicengagement #urbantrees #urbanforestry #treeplanting
