Shoutout to the Support Staff! Where would we all be as teachers without the incredible army of support staff behind us? I have had the privilege of working with many amazing and dedicated Technicians, TAs and Admin Staff in my career, many that have remained in touch long after I left the school! In my first role as Head of Science, I was in a school in London and finding things really challenging. It was a split site school and I had a team of 25 Teachers and Technicians to lead, and a Y7-13 Science curriculum to manage; talk about a baptism of fire! The Science Technicians in that setting were some of the most wonderful and supportive human beings you could ever hope to meet - always there with a smile, a cup of coffee, home cooked food(!), and a willingness to drop everything and help at a moments notice! Even now, years later, I'll get a WhatsApp message out of the blue from one of those Technicians, typically some sort of inspirational meme or news about her family. The image below is what she sent me yesterday ... just because ... and it was exactly the right thing at the right moment! Here we are, almost 10 years later, and this person is continuing to support me, just because she can! Archer Academy has been shortlisted for the Tes Awards 2024 🎉 The best schools and teachers across the country have been shortlisted in this year’s Tes Schools Awards. The Tes Schools Awards, which have been dubbed the ‘Oscars of education’, is a prestigious awards programme which celebrates the best of education across the UK. It has now been revealed that Archer Academy has been shortlisted in two categories;  Excellence in Creative Arts and Staff Wellbeing School of the Year. The Tes Schools Awards recognises the very best teachers and schools from UK state and independent schools, across early years settings, primary and secondary. The shortlist was compiled by a panel of expert judges, including school leaders and experts. The schools and teachers they chose showcase the best of education across the sector within 21 award categories, covering all areas of school education. Jon Severs, Editor of Tes Magazine said, "Congratulations to all the shortlisted entries - the standard was so high this year despite the challenges schools face. It is critical we celebrate excellence and share it widely so we can ensure that the fantastic work happening in education is properly recognised." This week at Archer sees our annual wellbeing week for both students and staff. The focus around this week is ‘joy’ and how we can implement this in our daily work. We have a range of different things happening across this week to support spreading joy within the school community.
