Tumour deposit count is an independent prognostic factor in colorectal cancer—a population-based cohort study ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dJjhKDmd This study investigates the prognostic significance of multiple tumour deposits (TDs) in CRC using population-based data from the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Registry Our findings indicate that TDs significantly increase the risk of poor outcomes and provide valuable insights beyond current assessments We believe that considering tumour deposits more thoroughly could lead to improved treatment decisions However, further research is necessary to identify the most effective treatment strategies for patients with tumour deposits in bowel cancer Work by Simon Lundström, Erik Agger, Marie-Louise Lydrup, Fredrik Jörgren, Pamela Buchwald #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques @BJSAcademy @young_bjs @BJSOpen @des_winter @evanscolorectal @robhinchliffe1 @bplwijn @MalinASund @nfmkok @TejedorPat @paulo_sutt @PVaughanShaw @JJEarnshaw @juliomayol @ksoreide #colorectalsurgery #StepUp4CRC @FightCRC @ACPGBI #ERAS @dice_europe #Crohn #proctology @Dukes_Club @ACPGBI_EduTrain @AECP_FAECP @PelvExGroup @escp_tweets @YouESCP #TeachMeColoproctology #Some4COLoprocto

🇳🇱Dutch national guideline on the management of intergluteal pilonidal sinus disease ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dX4-V5n3 Surgery for PSD is undertaken in around 9000 patients per year in the Netherlands Surgical procedures range from minimally invasive techniques to more extensive excision with secondary wound healing or flap reconstruction- It remains unclear whether the severity of disease (classification) should determine the timing and choice of treatment This guideline aims to reduce the significant variation in surgical treatments for PSD, and to improve understanding of its aetiology, diagnosis, classification, and prevention strategies. Days at home (DAH) after surgery as a perioperative outcome: scoping review and recommendations for use in health services #research ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d_sfziji DAH appears to be a robust, valid, and accessible perioperative outcome that captures a holistic measure of the impact of surgery By incorporating multiple measures of healthcare utilization, DAH is a comprehensive patient-centred metric, with a role in both research and policy It has been used in descriptive analyses, comparative effectiveness research, and clinical trials However, there is significant heterogeneity in terminology, definitions, and analysis, as well as inconsistent reporting practices ➡️ These factors impact the interpretability and adoption of DAH as an outcome measure Work by Tiago Ribeiro, Armaan K Malhotra, Adom Bondzi-Simpson, Antoine Eskander, Negar Ahmadi, Frances C Wright, Daniel I McIsaac, Alyson Mahar, Angela Jerath, Natalie Coburn, Julie Hallet #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques @des_winter @evanscolorectal @robhinchliffe1 @bplwijn @MalinASund @nfmkok @TejedorPat @paulo_sutt @PVaughanShaw @JJEarnshaw @juliomayol @ksoreide @BJSAcademy @young_bjs @BJSOpen #some4hpb #some4tpl @DPCG_official @pancreatitis_nl @PancreasClub #PancreasClub2023 #PancreaticCancer #Pancreatitis #HCC @PanCAN #PanCANawareness @EurPancClub @P_C_E_ @dice_europe #PancreaticCancer #cholangiocarcinoma #colorectalsurgery #StepUp4CRC @FightCRC @ACPGBI #ERAS @dice_europe #Crohn #proctology @Dukes_Club @ACPGBI_EduTrain @AECP_FAECP @PelvExGroup @escp_tweets @YouESCP #TeachMeColoproctology #Some4COLoprocto #some4UGI #uppergi #esophagealcancer #gastriccancer #reflux @ISDE_net @Augishealth @roux_group @T4UGIS @SARONG_Trial @asgbi @ASiTofficial @eurohernias @SEIQuirurgica @ESCP_tweets @YouESCP

🇳🇱Nationwide variations in the execution of minimally invasive right hemicolectomy and short-term outcomes: first phase of the RIGHT study ➡️ https://lnkd.in/duSUVrM2 This first phase of the RIGHT study shows that, in the participating hospitals, a high percentage of minimally invasive right hemicolectomy operations are performed with the established evidence-based ‘new’ techniques (such as intracorporeal anastomosis and Pfannenstiel extraction) and with acceptable short-term morbidity However, specimen evaluation demonstrated that a minority of the patients underwent a CME with central SMV dissection and CVL of segmental vessels, implying that this recent development and guideline recommendation is not yet broadly implemented in the Netherlands Work by @alexandergruter, Willemijn A Jongsma, Nicola Leone, Hasti Barai, Boudewijn R Toorenvliet, Pieter J Tanis, Jurriaan B Tuynman, RIGHT Collaborators Group #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques @BJSAcademy @young_bjs @BJSOpen @des_winter @evanscolorectal @robhinchliffe1 @bplwijn @MalinASund @nfmkok @TejedorPat @paulo_sutt @PVaughanShaw @JJEarnshaw @juliomayol @ksoreide #colorectalsurgery #StepUp4CRC @FightCRC @ACPGBI #ERAS @dice_europe #Crohn #proctology @Dukes_Club @ACPGBI_EduTrain @AECP_FAECP @PelvExGroup @escp_tweets @YouESCP #TeachMeColoproctology #Some4COLoprocto

Impact of the radiological morphology of the mesopancreas on the outcome after pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: retrospective study ➡️https://lnkd.in/dYWQwTAH According to qualitative radiological assessment, the mesopancreas can be characterized as having normal fat, fat stranding, or solid infiltration. At diagnostic imaging, solid infiltration (but not fat stranding) of the mesopancreas is associated with a poor prognosis for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients who undergo pancreatoduodenectomy. Further exploration of underlying mechanisms related to retroperitoneal tumoral invasion of vascular margins and the mesopancreas is suggested. 👏👏👏Julie Navez, Martina Pezzullo, Christelle Bouchart, Tatjana Arsenijevic, Pieter Demetter, Jean Closset, Oier Azurmendi Senar, Marie-Lucie Racu, Nicky D’Haene, Jacques Deviere, Laurine Verset, Maria Antonietta Bali, jean luc van laethem #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery BJS Academy BJS #some4hpb #some4tpl #PanCANawareness #PancreaticCancer

👀Read our #Needlepoint 🪡 Neoadjuvant treatment of rectal cancer: from adjunct to surgery to primary organ sparing treatment ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dCXwUpzT Neoadjuvant treatment has a clear goal for any stage of rectal cancer, be it with the goal of organ preservation or with the goal of improving oncological outcomes Although salvage TME will remain the standard technique for patients with an insufficient response or local regrowth, it is inconceivable that the future of rectal cancer care will be dominated by upfront surgery Work by Jacobus W.
