To date we have allocated over £4million to support research into CO exposure. Our latest recipients include the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Manchester Metropolitan University and the UK Health Security Agency. These research projects span a range of topics including CO exposure in pregnancy, low-level CO exposure and effects on the heart as well as measuring air pollution in ambulances. We are ending our CORT 2024 review with what feels like a very appropriate message originally posted during #coawarenessweek. Carbon monoxide remains a severe safety risk and silent killer. Please ensure you have a British Standard working alarm fitted in your home this Christmas!

During the CORT Conference 2024 the CORN team conducted a survey and feedback on the current state of CO research stated "there is a lot going on in terms of CO research and data review, we need to be mindful not to overlap and ensure our findings from research is readily available and easy to understand". The CO Research Network aids researchers in connecting and sharing their proposals and ideas allowing for a collaborative approach avoiding duplication and receiving valuable feedback on research. We are pleased to announce the details of the first CORT lecture of 2025! “CO Research For Africa - a look into the CO work taking place across Sub-Saharan Africa”, Wednesday 15th January 2025,1pm - 2.30pm (BST), Online. The Trust has been actively supporting the development of the CO Research Network, an initiative to connect researchers tackling carbon monoxide issues worldwide. A key contributor to this effort is Dr. Antony Nyombi, who completed his PhD at Cranfield University with a focus on carbon monoxide. His work was funded by the CO Research Trust, the Katie Haines Memorial Trust, and the Boat Safety Scheme. Dr. Nyombi leads the CO Research in Africa project, which unites researchers across the continent to collaborate on advancing our understanding of carbon monoxide. The project focuses on gathering critical data related to CO, including its sources, incidents, epidemiology, exposures, detection methods, and mitigation strategies. In this lecture, Dr. Nyombi will share insights from his work, joined by leading experts from the region. Together, they will discuss ongoing research efforts in Africa. Join us for this informative event. Register for the lecture using the link below! https://lnkd.in/edaDrVkh
