As the festive season is upon us, we at The Conscious Workplace wish everyone a peaceful and joyous break.......... . . For those taking some well-deserved time off, we hope you can truly unwind and recharge. For those continuing to work through, we acknowledge your dedication and hardships, and we also encourage you to find at least a brief moment for yourself. Wherever you are this season, take a moment to celebrate your efforts, reflect on the year past, and consider what you’d like to do differently in the new year. We’re excited to share fresh ideas and resources in 2024 to support and inspire your plans, so be sure to revisit our page in the new year! Wishing you all peace, joy, and brighter days ahead.

Listen like your job depends on it … because it does. . . One of my pet hates in meetings is people talking over each other, often repeating the same idea in different words with varying emphasis. The lack of listening leads to many issues: people ‘poaching’ others' ideas, unfinished thoughts, and repetition. If you are truly short on time, give people a time limit—30 seconds or a minute—to summarize what they want to say. Start a culture where it’s acceptable to support another person’s opinion with a simple ‘I agree.’ Encourage your team and lead by example in removing ‘but’ from your statements. Replace it with ‘and’—for example, 'That’s a great idea, AND we could also...' This simple technique acknowledges a person’s input and encourages collaboration and future possibilities, rather than dismissing ideas and focusing on the negative.
