Are we there yet?! We’ve all said it, we all dread it when children start getting bored on a road trip. In my day we played I-spy to amuse ourselves (which lasted about 5 minutes!) 🤪 Now technology is available to keep them amused throughout their travels, until they haven’t downloaded enough films, music, games and they don’t have any data left! (They had ONE job!)🤦♀️ “Why is there no Wi-Fi on motorways?” 🤷♀️ This is the live online career challenge The Data Inspiration Group and National Highways have created for students in year groups 10-13 to start their data literacy journey, develop key employability skills and add to their UCAS and personal statement applications. National Highways are focused on supporting the UK’s net-zero target, aiming to create a sustainable road network and road use. Do you remember being asked..... “What do you want to do when you grow up?!” A question dreaded by most of us especially if you have no idea. Its so difficult to decide, because realistically as a young person we have limited visibility to the breadth of careers available, what skills are required and that the opportunities that are out there – and lets be honest the majority of us have fallen into our careers. With The Data Inspiration Group partnership with National Highways, we’re working to change that! Together, we hope to provide visibility to careers that may not have ever been considered or known about at National Highways. Whilst building essential data literacy skills, building confidence and awareness of entry pathways that are available. Big thanks to Jasmin Haines for the amazing video – I couldn’t have said it better myself! Inspiring young people to explore new possibilities and feel more prepared for the future is something we owe to the next generation along with assisting industry in building a diverse talent pipeline. Who knows?
