Forces in Mind Trust has awarded funding to evaluate the progress of support for Armed Forces families revisiting the Living in Our Shoes report. The report, published in 2020, highlighted the unique challenges faced by UK Armed Forces and made recommendations for change. New research led by authors of the original report Professor Jan Walker OBE and Dr Gabriela Misca together with Peter Davis OBE will reexamine the recommendations of the original report to better understand the challenges faced by Armed Forces families today. The research will also determine future priorities for families, and recommend the actions needed by charities and government. As part of the collaborative nature of this project the research team and Forces in Mind Trust invite those wanting to learn more to join us for the launch of Living in Our Shoes: Revisited online on 5th December from 12:00-13:00. The project is hosted by the University of Worcester and will run for 30 months. https://lnkd.in/e32KJunG
Forces in Mind Trust
Non-profit Organization Management
Seeking to improve transition for all UK military personnel and their families.
About us
Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) is a National Lottery Community Fund endowed spend-out charitable Trust, whose aim is to provide an evidence base that will influence and underpin policy making and service delivery in order to enable ex-Service personnel and their families to lead successful civilian lives as they transition from the serving military community. We have ambitions to make a transformational difference to the sector by working in partnership with and coordinating the efforts of others, and by supporting projects through decisive and targeted grants and research commissions, and through their subsequent exploitation to influence long-term solutions to the challenges. FiMT originated from a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund (now the National Lottery Community Fund), Cobseo (The Confederation of Service Charities) and other charities and organisations, and is a member of the Cobseo Executive Committee. The Big Lottery Fund invested a 20 year disbursable endowment of £35 million in FiMT to create sustainable improvement for veterans and their families. The Trust is undertaking a range of research activities to improve the understanding of transition-related issues and the welfare support provided to former members of the Armed Forces and their families, such as: • Improving the role of families in supporting the impact of transition • The state of British veterans’ mental health and wellbeing • Mapping of the whole transition process • Information, Advice and Guidance support systems Grant applications If you would like to apply for a grant, please read our eligibility criteria on our website.
